Okay... didnt have any internet so I'm only now catching up on the posts. There is only one person dead in Barbuda. I didnt mention Anu cause we werent hit badly. Yes, even though its only one death, the island is destroyed, 90%. Our PM is most likely going to evacuate them over here, esp as we watch Jose. We still dont have much contact with them.

Next, I am trying to contact my fam in St Thomas, to no avail... I heard that they got hit pretty bad too.

Hopefully everyone is ok. Can't imagine dealing with all the damage and loss down there. Yes, buildings and things can be replaced, but starting over from scratch just boggles the mind. Hang in there, well wishes from the high and dry (and currently not burning, thank heavens) Midwest.

I was checking just now. The French Antilles, including Martinique and Guadeloupe, are damaged, although they haven't started estimating loss of life as of yet. Power is down, and the islands are structurally damaged, with Antigua and Barbuda being in the worst shape.

Looking at the updated tracking map, still looks like a Sunday morning landfall in the Miami area as a Cat 4 or 5, then it will follow the Florida Atlantic coastline and make a second landfall around Savannah on Monday morning.

According to Ventusky, Irma should dissipate by September 12 inland in North Carolina. On September 14, suspicious movement would form in the Atlantic and would form a Hurricane Lee.

September is always the most dangerous month of the season, so it isn't surprising the activity is this bad. But it's still disconcerting.

It will be borderline 5. It could still become the first Category 5 landfall since 1992. Considering where landfall is expected it really doesn't matter weather its a four or five the damage will catastrophic.

PR is out of danger as of 2am. They're banged up, and without power and water in most places, but the damage is not as bad as it was in places like Sint Maarten, Antigua, and Barbuda. Hispanola, Bahamas, Cuba and FL are now where we need to direct our attention to. I hope they get spared the brunt of the system.

I heard somewhere that planes are actually able to fly pretty well in a hurricane due to horizontal winds. It's the vertical winds that get you though.
