Purpelia does not reflect my actual world views. In fact, the vast majority of Purpelian cannon is meant to shock and thus deliberately insane. I just like playing with the idea of a country of madmen utterly convinced that everyone else are the barbarians. So play along or not but don't ever think it's for real.

The above post contains hyperbole, metaphoric language, embellishment and exaggeration. It may also include badly translated figures of speech and misused idioms. Analyze accordingly.

Most news outlets are saying 9 confirmed dead in the Caribbean, but don't be surprised if that number spikes up as they go through the rubble in Barbuda.

Puerto Rico is still getting lots of rain but has been spared the worst of the wind; the northern coast of the Dominican Republic is getting clobbered with rain and hurricane-force wind gusts but the worst of the wind is far enough off shore to limit the damage; and it's about to get extremely ugly in Turks and Caicos Islands. For the US mainland, the track has moved slightly westward; they're now projecting a direct hit on Miami. It should still be a major hurricane, either Cat 4 or 5, when it hits the Miami area sometime early Sunday morning.

It's starting to look now like Hurricane Jose's going to be following in on Irma's trail. Great.

I would imagine Jose's not very big by itself though, is it? Kinda like how Rita was not very big and followed right behind Katrina.

It's pretty weak. I think it's a Category 1? Maybe a 2?

Yeah, but still; it'd be nice to not potentially have a follow-up to Irma :P

There's a slight chance but NOAA forecast predicts it heading north-northwest in the Atlantic and down-grading to Tropical Storm.

Also note that the line up of Hurricanes like this in the Atlantic has happened both in September of 2010 and the other in 1998. So it's not completely rare to see this.

Just saw this on MSN

Me: I don't agree with this at all in desperate times like this with a cat 5 hurricane coming in I'd much rather be focused on saving lives then worrying about serving warrants or denying people entry to a shelter. Now what I think should happen allow entry into the shelter but keep the sexual offenders in a separate area of the he same shelter from women and children.

Anyways is this even legal for them to do this?

Okay... didnt have any internet so I'm only now catching up on the posts. There is only one person dead in Barbuda. I didnt mention Anu cause we werent hit badly. Yes, even though its only one death, the island is destroyed, 90%. Our PM is most likely going to evacuate them over here, esp as we watch Jose. We still dont have much contact with them.

Next, I am trying to contact my fam in St Thomas, to no avail... I heard that they got hit pretty bad too.

Jokingly, I was bothering my mom about the last 3 hurricane/system names. She has a coworker named Irma, the coworker's husband is named Jose, and my mom's lawyer is named Katia. I told her this season is on her.

I know, right? :p

Sad report, only 40% of hospitals in PR are functional (electricity and water). And they're getting flooded with patients from the US Virgin Islands.

Hopefully everyone is ok. Can't imagine dealing with all the damage and loss down there. Yes, buildings and things can be replaced, but starting over from scratch just boggles the mind. Hang in there, well wishes from the high and dry (and currently not burning, thank heavens) Midwest.
