I'm rather worried about my mother and grandmother in Puerto Rico. Some of the models put it passing straight to the Island on it's way to the US East Coast and much stronger than what it is now. September is a dangerous month for the the Caribbean. I really hope no one gets affected by it.

There is a certain grim inevitability to hurricane season, in that it's almost certainly going to ruin someone's day. And if it's not yours it's going to be someone else's. Unless we get really lucky and it holds to it's northernmost curve.

Well, it's definitely going to hit me. My country might get a direct hit, the worst part is that it's probably going to be Category 4. And if a category 3 hurricane can do that to Texas, imagine what it's going to do to my little island.

Interestingly enough, everyone down here is extremely calm. Like a powerful storm isn't about to come destroy our property, our cars, and god forbid our lives. As cliched, as it sounds, feels like the "calm before the storm." In my opinion, it kinds of feels like we're purposefully ignoring it, I included. Or maybe the realization hasn't sunk in yet. Or maybe it's because we kind of had a feeling it was coming. I mean, on Thursday the temperature was 119 degrees Fahrenheit; felt like fucking hell.

To all you religious folks, we're gonna need your prayers. And to everyone else wish us all the luck!

In fairness we have had a large drought of Hurricanes until recently. It lasted just over 10 years.

Honestly though over simplifying climate change to see a Hurricane is just as bad as over simplifying climate change to see a snow ball.

So Irma's being a bitch and moving closer and closer to us. The Leeward Islands are now under a Hurricane watch. They are closing all public schools and most private schools. Tomorrow is going to be a loong day. Irma is expected to hit us on Tuesday night. We're hoping she doesn't upgrade, however, they say she's strengthening.

Pretty far from the US rn for me to care much about it. Maybe in five days when it's closer and it's almost definitely going to hit this part of the East Coast (at least from what I've seen on the WC a day or so ago). I can still hope it won't impact the Caribbean too harshly though.

If we're lucky it'll just clip the Atlantic coast, although looking at the possible outputs from the NHC it looks like it could hit southern Florida directly. Still too early to tell though.

Gotcha. And Sandy hit a few years ago and was only beaten by Katrina for worst hurricane to hit the country.
