Why are hurricanes termed after stereotypical timid and shy female names or literally random as hell male names? Why not Bellatrix, Rosaline, Victoria or some other majestic feminine name? Why not hurricane Tyler, Tony, Karl or Mayweather (dat pun doe) why not some roughed up gangster type name for the males?

Reporting 46 hours later, no power for 45 1/2 hours. Do not know why no power. I understand that the Governor called for electric power to be shuf off in the entire island but there was no real damage to the electric lines in my regional location unlike NE points of PR. Most other neighborshoods in our regional location had power and we had to wait almost two days and no real damage in the electric lines. Some people think they are mixing politics into the equation. Some politicians want to sell the government owned electric company. So this could make a nice excuse. Of course, the private buyers only want the power plants. No one wants the transmission lines.

Going back, the wind blew hard around 1 am to 2 am on Sept. 8. They were just tropical force winds since the Hurricane force winds of this five hurricane were at least 100 miles to the North which would put it over the Atlantic ocean.

So in two days the frozen foods started thawing. So many of my neighbors went out and bought ice. Then later one of my neighbors boss, who has three portable generators, loaned one of my neighbors the generator after he got power. So today he brought over to my neighbor one of his portable generators. I helped hooked it up to her big freezer and refrigerator/freezer. So I and another neighbor took our frozen foods to the neighbor who got loaned the portable generator.

That new hurricane Jose is suppose to pass farther north of PR. so there should be no major problems.

Our region (region in red in the following map below) did not get really hit hard at all. By september 08, most businesses (that had power) were back in business. All the supermarkets were also back in business since they have back up generators. Outside if you looked it seemed no storm had really passed through our red region. On that map the regions in purple , dark yellow, purple and pink got hit harder by the tropical force winds but not the Hurricane force winds which passed 80 Km (50 mi) north of the Capital in dark yellow on the following map. By the time the Hurrricane got to the red part on that map it was around 144 Km. (90 mi) to the North. In answering your other question, home is made of cement blocks and rebar. The roof is poured concrete with rebar. The majority of homes in PR. are made of cement block, rebar and poured concrete roofs with rebar. Thus, they are really Hurricane proof, has long has, you do not install cheap windows.

Edit - Hurricane Jose is supposed to pass 281 Km. (175 mi) North of our capital which is that dark yellow on the map. Should point out that some people from those small islands that were hit hard and are in need of hospitals have been flown to local hospitals in PR. Also, people in PR. have been gathering supplies to send to our neighbors in those hard hit islands.

The hurricane was suppose to go up the Atlantic coast of Florida and thus hit Miami. But since the hurricane move more to the West, it has hit the Florida keys hard and is expected to move up the Gulf of Mexico coast of Florida thus hit Naples and further up Tampa.
