There's also the long road option of campaigning for a constitutional amendment allowing for self-determination, but Puidgemont and the Catalans seem a bit too impatient for that.

Well unless I'm mistaken and the 500-year old Spanish Empire isn't dead, then I'd like to believe that Madrid won't bomb Barcelona.

Or I'm wrong and the Catalans see themselves as another colonized peoples who're demanding their freedom from an imperial power. Judging Spain's history with colonial indepence movements, Catalonia's going to be free.
