"Failing to protect Spanish national police from protesters"

Pretty sure the only ones needing protection were the PROTESTERS from the police.

The charges make sense if you're a dick.
Vaguely a pessimist, certainly an absurdist, unironically an antinatalist.

1.He gave an apology on the racial slur thing, saying that he was rather mad at himself for that because he hates that kind of behavior in online games himself, and he hated how he took part in it.
2.Shitty jokes are shitty jokes. The joke was to see how far people on Fivver would go for $5. And he was understandably horribly shocked when it actually happened, which you can see from his face pretty clearly.
3.He also made a video after Charlottesville pretty much saying he was done with those shitty jokes because he does not want to be associated with those people at all after that.

So, no, it doesn't mean white supremacist behavior.

Agreed, he's no white supremacist, just a doofus. He may have been better served not posting the Fivver video (he did later take it down), but again, that's just being stupid, not racist.

'In the rest of Spain' is the problem though. Playing tough guy isn't going to win the Catalonians back.

Tananat wrote:Why? He's in the right, legally speaking.

I think it's well past the point where being legally in the right could settle the issue.

I don't think it is in the interest of either side to risk another civil war in Spain, lest cause more chaos on top of two really miserable years (2016 and 2017).

Playing with alt-right and fashy stuff stopped being cool a while ago, but Charlottesville was the nail in the coffin. The movement has been taken over by hardcore white nationalists and is likely to end where they have been since ever; On the fringe.

Possibly same will happen to Antifa. What will be remembered is the Summer of Hate.

Tananat wrote:So in news that's actually on topic the Catalan police chief - and others - are being questioned on charges of sedition.

They had issues in the Chain of Command. This is serious business. If that breaks down you have, as state or government, a real problem.

Good article by Nando Villa in the Washington Post by the way.
'How the Spanish government is pushing Catalans to support independence:A bumbling effort to keep the country unified only radicalized the region.'

Indeed.
"I would like it if all Jews were gassed"
"Omg - you nazi"
"Oh, typical. Call someone you disagree with a nazi. Pathetic"

That really about sums it up...

Except that's not what's happening.

Really, if they're holding an illegal referendum and threatening to secede, what kind of response are they expecting?

Well, technically, police officers can be in dereliction of their duty if they don't back up other officers.

Normally.

In this case, Rajoy is just dissatisfied with the tiny bit of backbone the Mossos showed during the referendum, and wants their leader to grovel harder or get burnt at the stake so as to stamp out any sparks of independent thought in the local civil service.

I cannot form a proper opinion here. Catalonia should be allowed to declare independence, but not like this. Furthermore, the situation is in a terrible and tangled mess right now, and it’s total chaos.

Puigdemont should totally get the shit done.
Declaration of independence, right to the Rajoy's face. And see what happens.

I say he has no balls to send tanks after all, as it seems with all that apologizing today.

The Castilians were always extremely bad in keeping their conquests.
"Those who reached my boundary, their seed is not; their hearts and their souls are finished forever and ever. As for those who had assembled before them on the sea, the full flame was their front before the harbour mouths, and a wall of metal upon the shore surrounded them. They were dragged, overturned, and laid low upon the beach; slain and made heaps from stern to bow of their galleys, while all their things were cast upon the water." - Ramesses III., Battle of the Delta

I'm waiting for the photos with Catalan police stepping in between Catalans and the Guardia Civil.

I'm waiting for Rajoy to roll the tanks to the Catalan Parliament on Tuesday, and see them confounded by parked police cars bearing the Catalan colors blocking their way, backed by a couple ranks of those inglorious bastards that are the Catalan fire service.
