Balance and discipline are key. University is a time of a lot of work and busyness, but make sure to keep some time for yourself. If you don't (like I didn't) burnout will probably result, and once your motivation is gone, it's very hard to find it again. Balance self-care and socialization with classes and homework.

On the other hand, discipline is needed, because it's also easy to procrastinate. If you set up a time to do an assignment, don't make excuses and put it off. Just do it. College life is a tad less chaotic when you're not constantly pushing the deadline.

Most children piece it together themselves over time. It's only a problem when parents are too insistent on keeping it going against the doubts of the kid.
