I can't tell you how humiliating it is to describe where I live to foreigners using Chicago.

I love Arkansas, but I ain't going to sugar coat it. Let's be honest, few people actually care abut any of the states between New York and California with the exception of a few cities along the way.

In all fairness, it's pretty rare for the average foreigner to know about the administrative regions of other nations, it's more common for them to know about a few important cities than any states or provinces.

The diamonds and the BBQ. Although I would excise and take the town of Eureka Springs with me to another state. It's a lovely spot and, to me, the only redeeming place in the state.

Well that's what you get in a fly over state.

Well, that's what you get called when you have the highest rice production industry in the US, birthplace of one of the world's largest supermarkets (Wal-Mart), as well as Tyson's Chicken, home of the American Taekwondo Association National Headquarters and famous people from Johnny Cash and Maya Angelou to Bill Clinton, Billy Bob Thornton, John Grisham, and Mary Steenburgen. Our Hot Springs have drawn people from FDR to Al Capone. Oh, and we also lead the US in the computer tech movement and all of our schools are required to have computer science classes. The FIRST state to make that state law.

There's a good side to everything, right? Including flyover states.

Anyway, flags. I've always liked Ohio's flag, the only one that's not a rectangle. Anybody here from Ohio?

I really love the North Carolina state flag. It's fairly simple and easily recognizable. The red, white, and blue color scheme calls back to the national flag well, and the "N☆C" is a very easily reproducible motif that works well to mark things as unmistakably North Carolinian.

I love the Maryland flag, even though I hate the government of my state, the flag will always be a source of pride. The flag combines the banner of the founder of the Maryland colony, Cecil Calvert, and the banner of his mother's family. I'm pretty sure around 5% of the Maryland economy is solely from MD flag themed apparel and bumper stickers.

I believe NC did it first but since everyone knows about Texas, NC was the one who had to change.
