I would assume that being able to learn any language would include the ability to use that language, so in the case of computer languages being able to use the language to do all that.

What I am trying to explain is that there is a difference between knowing how to tell a computer what to do and knowing what you need to tell it to do. Programing is 99% about figuring out what you want to the program to do and how it should do this and 1% in actually translating that into something the computer can understand.

For example it's trivially easy these days to create a program with a couple of buttons that do stuff. You can literally get the code off google for free. The key is figuring out which buttons you need to do the job you want doing. And how they are going to do it. Picking the right method that gives you the right balance of speed and hardware requirements and meshes well with the rest of the project and all that good stuff.

Knowing a programing language is kind of like knowing how to assemble a house from bricks. You still need an architect to tell you where to put the walls or else you're just making a big pile of bricks.

So to get away from the typical political stuff here I had a question. If you were a mutant (a la marvel comics) what would you be like and what would your super powers be?

For me I would be a person who controls sound waves I produce and can use those sound waves to affect people's minds. I would mostly do this through things like making music and singing, though I could also dampen or magnify sound waves. This would occur regardless of the medium the sound is traveling through so earplugs and the such wouldn't exactly do much. The reason I would use song mainly because I would have a stutter, which gets in the way of my abilities. My abilities could be used to the good or the bad, where I can help people overcome there own mental scaring like ptsd, but I could also use it to brainwash people to do what I want.

Selective omniscience. For example, I'd like to know the winning Powerball numbers, or everything on how to work on vehicles, but I don't want to know what shit tastes like.

Even if my current primary/central body "dies", the collective now has my exact thought process, desires, emotions, etc. and is capable of continuing infecting people; my mind would live on through the collective, and a new "Prime Mind" would probably be randomly selected to control the collective.

Bonus points for the fact that this means I get more powers as I go, and even telepaths aren't immune because I am literally causing their consciousness to wither and die in favor of my own.

The process is like a 'psionic virus', so even escaping my aura, depending on how far you were exposed, won't save you; eventually, you will return and join the collective. Or be used as an agent to further the collective's reach through the fact that you, too, now carry the infection.

Sounds like a good recipe to produce a society full of drones that don't actually contribute to things you can steal. Like, why would you want to make all the women around you into mental clones of your self when you can just mind control them into wanting you for a night? Same thing for the men. You want them to work in those factories making those gadgets and candy and expensive things that make your life more comfortable. Not be you and have the same hopes, dreams and wants as you do. All you'd be doing is making more of you that's more difficult to please as opposed to actually pleasing your self.


Plus like you just know that there is always going to be an annoying super out there with delusions of grandeur and a messianic complex that's going to be looking for people just like you and conveniently have exactly the right powers to neutralize your own due to plot reasons or heroic willpower or what ever.

Actually at this point I am addressing a very mundane topic. By infecting others all you achieve is gathering more mouths you have to feed, literally. Simply put, the more people you control the more of "you" there is. And therefore the more the basic needs of you grow. At the same time you are not really gaining any resource that would be required to compensate for this growth.

My approach exploits people around me, periodically in bursts, to satisfy my personal needs be they for food, clothing or what ever else. Yours increases the number and severity of needs whilst at the same time growing the strain on the governing mind which now has to juggle controlling all those bodies and accounting for their requirements.

It's like being in charge of a government but only the worst most uncomfortable parts of it like having to care for your people and without any of the sweet sweet abuse of power.

Technically speaking, my mutant power is a psionic infection that turns people's consciousnesses into copies of my consciousness - thoughts, desires, etc. included - along with placing them under my "primary mind's" control. Not sure if the hivemind would cease after my original body dies, or if the hivemind would just throw "me" into a random body of mine that's infected. Also, all infected can continue spreading the infection, inheriting my powers to further my collection of all individuals into a singular collective consciousness.

In theory, I'd actually never die; especially if I started in, say, New York City.

Aside from the fact that it essentially makes no sense and is completely unachievable. And then the implied masturbation and essential rape of thousands of bodies combined into one is utterly horrifying and disgusting.

As for the power I would want, perhaps I would want to be able to see into souls. As odd as that sounds, not only would it help with social interaction, but if you run into a villain and you wanna break him down without having to kill him, all you have to do is read out to him his worst fears. Though that would be rather cruel anyway. It could also be used to help people by showing a deep understanding of them, and seeing past all the social barriers people put-up.
