A word on Hate...

Feeling nostalgic, I browsed a few pages of NSG again after some long absence. The only noteworthy thread I found was that Generation Z thread now on Page 8 or so. It wasn't long before finding several posts openly declaring they proudly consume themselves in their embrace of pure hate. Call me a triggered leftie, but, after a bunch of self discovery over the past 10 years, it only further resolves my own further feelings of contempt for some ideologies. My phone's wifi hotspot trollingly being named "Republicans Are Pure Evil" is one such example of my feelings.

Anyways, in 2013, I realized myself to actually be a bisexual myself, for real. I can't remember if I made jokes about it on NS before, because my sexy post count of 8,000 was tragically nuked with the loss of the Jolt Forums, so I have no archive to search for evidence. Speaking of which, I never understood some people's hate for Jolt. But whatever.

But all I know is that back then, I myself was seething with much more hate than I do now. "I hate abortion", "I hate 'lesbonazis'", or whatever hate you can come up with using whatever inappropriate slur I pulled out of my ass for whatever group of people or ideology I have. Looking back on all that hate I had, it is not who I want to be. I don't like hating on people anymore. Especially since a large part of my dislike of lesbians back then I now realize was probably a crappy way to project my internal feelings. Am I still guilty of some hate? Yes. But at the ripe old fossil fuel age of 32, I can say with experience that embracing all-consuming hate is a pretty crappy rabbit hole to dig into. In the meantime, I certainly quit hating on the LGBT, and I especially quit hating on abortion...

But while I do my best to refrain from hate towards groups of people, the news cycles these days makes it especially hard. I certainly deleted twitter and reduced my TV news consumption. Because I don't need more hate. I see a lot of it. I already dislike right-wing ideology simply because it is so consumed by hate. Can't we all get along?

But, as a bisexual who still clings on to his free love freedom ideologies from 10 years ago, and I certainly try not to hate on people anymore, and while I certainly hope some NSG'ers rethink their embracement of hate, it's pretty damn hard to like a political party whose only purpose in life is to have me dead.

Why would fair elections trigger a mental health concern?

Would you rather a one party state where you do not have the opportunity that democracy brings.

Every so many years the media and the politicians get us all anxious. Flinging mud at each other and saying if the other party gets in, its the end of the world. Fearmongering at its best.

So Trump won. Big deal. So Hiliary lost. Big deal. Both are friends behind the scenes and neither of them winning or losing is going to cause the planets to align and bring God's wrath.

Same with Brixit if your not from Britain. Its of no concern if people want to seperate from the EU which only has its own interests at heart. People voted and the exit crowd won. Its not as if the UK is going to sink into the ocean because of it.

You will find that your mental health triggers will reduce when you realise you cannot control the world or anyone else or demand they change their views. Whether left wing or right wing. People are people and there are annoying people in both wings. Many times i wanted to leave due to some rants from a left wing bigot. But those left wing bigots dont speak for everyone. And neither do the right wing ones.

All you can do is control your own actions, thinking, speech.

With all due respect, the Brexit and Trump gave hate groups the confidence they needed to push their anti-Muslim, anti-LGBT, anti-disabled agenda, and without an "all hands on deck" response to counter that threat, the hate groups can be very effective. Vassenor, can you back me up on this?

Part of the beauty of debating on a public forum is to have somebody espousing a set of views antithetical to your own.

I remember when NS was swamped with a large amount of left-wingers. To the point when it was like Hippostania and maybe five other regular posters who leaned substantially right of center.

I felt just as welcome in NS then as I did when the balance tipped for a few months and the percentage of right-wing posters dramatically increased.

Not feeling welcome just because more people are willing to disagree with you is rather childish, wouldn't you agree?

I said this right after the election and got slammed by dozens of outraged people who threatened to quit the forum because they were so disgusted with the election results.

Yeah, because NS really is the cause of the election turning out the way it did. Therefore I will protest this election illegal fascist coup by ragequitting the site! Look at how mature and worldly wise I am!

Well I'm sorry, but I told these individuals to grow up then and move on and I'll happily say it again. It needed to be said more often, instead of feeding the narrative that people are entitled to feel sorry for themselves and become victims simply because the person they voted for didn't win.

Most right-wingers I've met on this forum don't engage in blatant trolling or flaming. But their mere presence on the site - and their audacity to present and discuss their own ideas and opinions - is considered repugnant to those who think said ideas/concepts are evil.

This goes especially for people who espouse various authoritarian forms of right-wing ideologies, namely fascism or something theocratic like Christian nationalism.

It doesn't matter if their opinions are presented in a civil manner. The very fact that they're being presented at all is, like I said, unacceptable to a specific vocal minority that would have it otherwise.

This goes especially for people who espouse various authoritarian forms of right-wing ideologies, namely fascism or something theocratic like Christian nationalism.

It doesn't matter if their opinions are presented in a civil manner. The very fact that they're being presented at all is, like I said, unacceptable to a specific vocal minority that would have it otherwise.

I am not a fan of raising children with my health like this, but it doesn't give me the excuse to stop others from having children.

I get the opposition to Islam (many view it as not compatible with western civilization) and LGBT (cause the vast majority of STDs, force their sexuality down other's throats etc.) but I've never seen an anti-disabled agenda...

This new fad of hatred and somehow acceptable racism is what happens during uncertain and unstable times in nations' populations, you should expect it, but that doesn't mean you should accept it either. Simply need to understand that it's a reaction to disillusionment from the seemingly "tolerant" establishment, a revolt of sorts of people, namingly young men, going to the opposite side of what they perceive the establishment to be. Even if they just work as an extension of the establishment in a more radical tone, like in the US currently with their alt-right.

You are sorely mistaken if you think most right-wingers are are anti-semitic larpers. Yes there's a lot of kek people from /pol/ and /r/the_donald here but they'll (hopefully) grow out of that soon. Most right-wingers are rational and dont base their views on blind hate. Each side of the spectrum has bad people.

The problem with that arises when they start trying to control what people wear or what religion they practice and how. Banning hijabs and Mosques is certainly anti-Muslim.
