To an extent. The bill already passed, the last vote is just the last attempt to take some of the worst things out of it, IIRC.

The big one was the first vote. The next one will be about the reconciliation bill and the additions (or subtractions) it brings to the first bill, if I understand it correctly

It also says "Impose a penalty on individuals who do not buy health insurance" is part of its provisions. Can somebody clear that up for me? That doesn't sound progressive, it sounds like the sort of thing someone with an irrational hatred of the poor would do.

IIRC, there is an exception for the poorest (Up to 133% of federal poverty line IIRC) and subsidies to provide help.

The reason for it, as it was explained, is that since insurance companies will no longer be able to drop or deny coverage, they didn't want people waiting until they actually got sick to buy insurance. That would drive costs up instead of down. So in making everyone buy it, costs drop.

What? That doesn't work. I mean, that's the same kind of logic that says health insurance companies will pay out if you get sick, instead of trying to weasel out of their obligations. Just because they can't do anymore apparently that is irrelevant. The government isn't making them lower prices, I guess, so they won't. In fact, now that people -can't opt out- without fines, what's stopping them putting it up? That would maximise profits, in a captive market.

if the insurance company doesnt pay 85% of premiums out for medical payments they have to rebate the excess.

I would assume so. 216 minimum, 217 so that way every "yea" Dem is not called the deciding vote.

I don't Understand why everyone thinks that free healthcare to the poor is a bad thing. My family is Very poor, and my mother doesn't have health insurance, and she will probably never be able to afford it. This could help a lot of people.
