They always do that. So do the Democrats. It's traditional. Sort of like George Bush touting his Air National Guard experience against John Kerry's combat service in Vietnam, back in 2004.

Yeah, I know, but so far it's only been Republicans since I started watching.

That kind of goes back to the Civil War, when the Republicans were the party that preserved the Union and all that, before they were bought out by a combine led by Jim Fisk and Jay Gould.

Is it just me, or do the only two republican points that actually have any substance (IE not just screaming "socialism!") are higher taxes and medicare cuts?

There are about 50 million Americans without health insurance now, if this bill passes, they will immediately get government funded insurance and who's going to pay for that? The middle and upper classes. Also, where are the extra doctors to treat these newly insured people? Answer: There are none, 50 million more patients and not a single additional doctor

I'm indifferent to this bill in particular... I would prefer a bill that had less compromising done on it, but I'll take this bill getting passed if it's this or nothing.

Immediately? No, sometime after the year after next year. Almost nothing in the bill goes into effect immediately. And the number is around 30 million, not 50 million. Interesting how the opponents of the bill lower and raise that number to suit the argument they're trying to make. And do you actually think all those uninsured people need medical attention right this minute? Or that no new doctors are being graduated in this country? Please, at least be creative in the lies you make up.

Barely a majority of NSGers support this bill? Holy crap, in the RL world, a lot of people must hate it.

NSG is usually center-left on its centrist days. Otherwise, it's chilling with Tolstoy.

where did you get that analysis from? you didnt make it up.

I was watching MSNBC and, I forget who, said something like "what those teabaggers mean when they say 'stealing mah Medicare!'

Of course, then I realized what he meant. The bill takes from Medicare and SS to pay for itself. Then (and I can attribute this to literally hundreds of sources) I remembered that there is no money in SS or Medicare to pay for itself. Thus, QED, the money must be double-counted.

Price just summed up a year of Republican arguments in one short speech.

And I really don't like where Woolsey is going.
