The party's "faith" is a political ideology, not a religion.

I'm for the rights of explicitly ideological organizations to restrict membership to people who agree with them.

If you read Animal Farm it's the same thing but somewhat more humours and a lot easier to get through.

Atheism is actually declining in China.

Hopefully party membership is too.

So,the Chinese are getting closer to nineteen eighty four. They do not care about the 'proles', but on the intellectuals, who are party members. Thoughts on that?

well the communist party has moral authority in China, so it follows that if it declares something immoral, it will have at least some effect on the perceived legitimacy of what they declaim

They did it so that he would be forced to find their choice of the next Dalai Lama. It also disrupts the Dalai Lamas attempts to find the next Panchen Lama. It screws over the system in theory at least.

Not necessarily, especially if it's true that the Chinese folk religions are exempt (I think someone said that earlier in this thread), a demographic that's massively larger in comparison to Christianity.

Party membership is less important now than it was in the 1990s, but where they are backsliding on so many other things, it would not surprise me if they start making party membership important again.
