Why would any country with money invest in anything with afghanistan..?

With the hope that after Afghanistan stabilises, it may serve as a valuable market, checkpoint for goods travelling across the One Belt, One Road plan, as well as a basis for influences in it's geographical area.

How big is Asia to this? East Asia? Including South Asia? West Asia?

East and South Asian unification is impossible because the countries there don't particularly like each other. There was never any Élysée Accords between Japan and its victims, or India and Pakistan, etc.

West Asia is a completely separate entity that would have no reason to associate itself with any pan-Asian unification entity that is a centimeter more than a basic free trade area. Very British of them.

Asia is an extremely diverse place with vast differences in the cultures, languages, and races of the people who inhabit it. Complete unification is impossible because of these massive differences and is undesirable because it would involve the destruction of these unique cultures. ASEAN does enough to promote cooperation between Asian countries.
