The Feminist Frequency Kickstarter campaign is the first case I can think of where feminist outrage was used very effectively as a marketing tool to make money for someone. Many of the other cases... well, it's hard to prove that Marvel was trying to use feminist outrage to sell comics when they launched what was widely known as She-Thor. That said, it's a viral technique with a track record of success in drawing publicity, which is exactly what clever marketers want to use. Viral techniques have a small initial outlay, and if they "catch," they're incredibly effective marketing in terms of dollars spent to publicity gained.

Off-topic, but Marvel jumped the shark two decades ago anyway. They gave into certain agendas that long ago and the comic issues side of their company sucks now.

In all honesty, I merely thought it was a dumb joke. Then again, when the entire thread is talking about how "revolutionary" this is, and was bashing everyone who thought it was simply "okay" or "whatever", and then suddenly switches to joking about it, that switch was kinda hard for me to spot.

The rest of the series was even lower, with UK viewing figures not even reaching 5m for some episodes.

I don't agree with the Horror Channel's assertion that ratings will tank with Whittaker (in fact, I expect they'll pick up for a little while at least), but making snarky remarks about facts you haven't bothered to investigate and overusing your favourite smiley doesn't make you look good.

As someone who really hates changes to existing characters, especially for the sake of diversity, I have to say that I find it funny that the one time people are genuinely outraged it's about the one single show in existence where the actual cannon means it's ok and I don't care.

I think the negative reaction to that is absolutely hilarious. Seriously, I saw people talking about how "freedom of expression" is important and said that because of that the Doctor Who team must not express their ideology because it's "Feminism". I think they never realized that "freedom of expression" also means freedom to those who think the opposite of you, hypocrites.
