I know. Why can't women just stay in the kitchen where they belong. I think all this problem started when they got the vote! I knew that would be a mistake!!!

No, no there isn't. Well, there's one. As you know. But a new one is not, at this time, happening.

Thank the gods for that. Seriously - never been so happy about anything. And I have woken up three times after heart surgery, so that really puts it in perspective :)

So how is this "ruining" the show?

Bruh it's literally just a sex change, it's even preestablished canon.

Eh, I want to see what they do with her.

It's going to be a really interesting change, to say the least.

Erm... it's not SJW-ism.

The director of Doctor Who already wanted to do something with the Doctor in this way even before SJW-ism was a thing, IIRC.

What is wrong with doing something thats established canon in the show? It was talked about as early as the late 1980s when it was time for Colin Baker's regeneration.

I know, right?

I mean it's not as if women's roles were ever played by men, or women played men in the good old days! That would be icky.

To me the Doctor must either always be male, or alternate sensibly. A bunch of male doctors, then one female? Pretty unlikely. Doctor Who really needs to learn realism.

Okay - go to a mirror and say that with a straight face. I dare you :)

Because a show about a multi millenia-old alien who travels through time and space needs realism.

See - that part I believe could be real. A civilisation that old could easily have conquered the intricacies of travelling through time and space. And the whole regeneration thing - that kind of makes sense.

No - the part where I lost it was when Bill pointed out that if the Doctor's vehicle was named on Gallifrey, how could it possibly be called a TARDIS that things started to fall apart for me :) (And how, in around 35 years of watching the show, had that never occurred to me before?)

Yes, but I am sure we have heard other Time Lord refer to their TARDIS. The Master, maybe, or someone on Gallifrey itself. I will have a scoot around tomorrow (it's late and I should be in bed) to see if I can find a clip of The Master talking about his TARDIS (because if he does, he cannot have picked that up from Susan, surely?)

So how is this "ruining" the show?

It's completely unnecessary Plus Doctor Who is a male role, trying to put a woman into a part that has been historically played by men is not going to work

I mean how would you react if there was a male version of The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants

Doctor Who is a liberal bourgeois show. It does not matter if the main star is a woman, as that does nothing to stop actual sexism or patriarchy.

This has to be tongue in cheek. I'd argue it's strange we've had 12 doctors without a change in gender or even race. As for learning realism... really? A regenerating time traveling alien who lives inside a inter-dimensional police box and has a sonic screwdriver that doesn't work on wood needs to learn realism because the gender changed? Are we really gonna ignore the toilet plungers on Daleks? Dr. Who was never about realism, and I'm interested to see where it goes from here.

Realism.

Well, I tell you what. When you resurrect yourself at the end of your life, if you're still male. then I'll concede you have a point.

When we're talking about a science fiction show that has already had other aliens of the same race (Gallifreyian) switch genders, I am less likely to consider such complaints as anything more than silliness.
