It's a show where time travel is the central theme. Canon has always been flexible anyway. But yes, it's been established for a while now that Time Lords can change just about anything when they regenerate.

If I understood correctly, the Doctors in Dr Who is not a singular person, but more or less a succession. In which case it's not as bad as for example taking an existing male character and replacing it with a female, to which I could understand some people being upset.

As someone who has watched a grand total of 3 episodes over the last 21 years, Neat. It's been fun seeing the whiny bitches come screaming from the woodwork on FB about and I quote "Male Erasure"
