Because apparently the only reason females exist is to be eye candy.

What do you mean? Surely not?

Is the sex of the main character a sufficient reason for you to get excited about? I mean, sure I dislike this shitty show but even if I liked it, I wouldn't get that worked up over so little, honestly.

See, I thought it would just be the readers of The Mail and The Express who would be up in arms. But no - it's the ACTUAL PAPERS that are fucked off about this.

Oh no!! Someone in Game of Thrones is going to be killed off after fucking his sister!! The entire internet is in shock!!

Game of Thrones is the most over-hyped piece of crap in history. I could not give a fuck that some blonde wench with dragons is fucking her sister's uncle's mother's grandson and her dragons will eat the short guy in three episodes time (Oh yeah - spoiler alert. Sorry). And yet somehow other people get excited by that fact.

I like Doctor Who and the fact have a Time Lady in The Tardis is a not inconsiderable event. If you don't watch it, then why are you in this thread?

Fascinating how upset some people can act over a couple of etheric beam locators.

From what little I know, the actor playing the main character change each season and it's canon that he can change sex too when he "respawn". It's not on the same level as wincest or a character dying, honestly. But yeah, the tv show is shit. Read the books. :p

It's the tabloid press. They'll take any opportunity to attack the BBC.

And from what little I know, someone dies on Game of Thrones every other second. So why do people still get excited about people dying?

Anyway - we can insult our respective TV shows for the rest of time, but I think our points have been made, don't you?

To be fair, Doctor Who has always been one to favour story over continuity should the two ever clash.

Personally I'm just excited to know who the new Docotr is. Now I'm all hyped. Christmas can't come soon enough.

Well this has already happened twice, once on camera and once off but involving a major character.

Can I just give a big shout out to everyone who has referred to her as the first female Doctor, and not the first female Doctor Who :) (It kind of bugs me when people get it wrong. Not bugs me on a "Oh my god I am going to snap, go on a rampage and end the world" level, but bugs me on a "People who say Attorney Generals" or "People who say Brother-in-laws" kind of way).

I honestly don't care and neither should feminists. Just because she's a woman it doesn't mean it's "progress"

I look forward to seeing how she does

It's a change of pace but I don't think it's exactly a good idea honestly. I'm just saying unless they give some sort of reasoning for this whole thing like they did with the 12th doctor being somewhat old then really I'm going to think it's just the BBC and another of their idiotic attempts at being PC again.

Reasoning? What reasoning do you need? They needed to cast someone for the role, so they did. Presumably, they cast someone they believe is competent. What more do you want?

I mean storywise. When the 11th doctor became the 12th doctor, that was when Clara (I think) was his at that time current companion, when he regenerated into the 12th doctor the reasoning in the story was because he wanted to show her the true him, something he wasn't able to do with some previous companions. If they don't do something like that with this one then I'll be entirely horribly disappointed in them.

I don't actually recall anything like that during Deep Breath.

It wasn't in deep breath, it was at some point in one of the seasons of the 12th doctor, I forget what episode but I do recall that much though.

I think I blew my monthly budget for dealing with such trash talk by those tabloids, yet The Sun says that while "traditionalists may moan", they call the choice "inspired".
