Now, if the BBC wanted to be REALLY progressive - they would make the doctor Scottish! Now, I don't mean give him a Scottish accent, or let a scot play him ( while still covering his accent ), I mean make him unapologetically Scottish. Plaid kilt, full Red beard, drinks scotch like a fish drinks water, unintelligible 70% of the time, make em' weight 16/17 stones, and replace his sonic screwdriver with fists! Oh, and make his companion William Wallace, or something equally stereotypical.
That would be a BOLD move!

Capaldi is Scottish. I think this will bring it lots of new fans.

To be honest, I was unlikely to watch the next season anyway - the last season was almost unwatchable due to the show's decline in quality, and it's clear that it's only going to get worse. She might be brilliant in the role - Peter Capaldi certainly was - but it's the writing, not the acting that makes the show and I don't see any signs that the writing is about to improve.
What would be a sign that the writing's about to improve? Other than, y'know, the current head writer quitting and being replaced?

I think that would probably be the sign I'd be looking for.
I really liked Steven Moffat at first, but his plots have become convoluted and nonsensical - where Russell T. Davies clearly planned ahead and knew what he wanted to achieve, I feel like Moffat just makes it up as he goes along and is quite careless in doing so.

Goodness, aren't you in luck, then? Steven Moffat is quitting and Chris Chibnall is taking over.
