In the olden days the victorious tribes used to be able to keep whoever they didn't kill. The system worked well for both sides because the losers got to keep on living, and the victors got to replenish their ranks and resources much more rapidly. Otherwise they would be more prone to attack from another hostile tribe. Therefore it could be considered as a necessary means of survival.

With growing centralized powers, slavery was starting to venture towards the realm of a becoming a commodity. It became a time where one could buy and sell your slaves on ebay (Or at least their nearest equivalent some thousands of years ago). The world was still a dangerous place back then and one could argue that there was still some degree of necessity towards slavery. Though slavery could probably have been replaced by some other means as it later was by the invention of the serf.

Nowadays there is hardly any need for such a device. Slavery today would be purely based on conspicuous consumption. A chance to show everybody that you own somebody else.

Well, either that or BDSM related.
Which once again proves my theory, "life's a bitch."

The only kind of slavery that should be legal is the kind where the (preferably female and hot) slave is willingly tied up and sordid sexual acts are performed upon them (preferably by me).

I once read how to regulate how their owners treat them, they would have check ups. But this had a downfall to, say slave were to step in a dog turd, he could tell authoritys that his owner shit on his foot and be free.

again, i am against slavery, just proposing ideas about it

How would such a policy ever be implemented, it's paradoxical in nature. To implementers of such a policy would have to become slaves themselves and upon rejecting the ideology they'd reject the policy and remove it.

And slavery shouldn't be legal. Even if it were mandated to treat slaves in a fair fashion I reckon the compliance rate would be low.

Rather than forcing prisoners into slavery I'd prefer the idea of turning prisons into small farms and telling the prisoners if they want food they'll have to grow it themselves.

Who's going to pay for all this regulation? How expensive will it be? Will it make keeping a slave uneconomical?

No. Slavery should stay banned. Anyway, those that want slaves can have the much more humane equivalent; hiring a butler.

For example, if you were put into slavery, the owner would have to treat you with respect and kindness. The slave would have to have meals and a place to sleep. the job would not be that hard, say picking berries or feeding your children. The jobs wouldn't be like long hours in a mine. So what i'm saying is a sort of unpaid, unwilling, butler-ship. :) And the only ways you could be a slave is 1. you were captured by soldiers or slavers of a neighboring offensive country 2. sell yourself into slavery or 3. have a debt to pay off, so you have to work, these would be called debt slaves

tell me what you think, please keep it clean

I think we should just have better working conditions for the paid. Since Julius Caesar instituted it, bankruptcy replaced slavery for unpaid debts, and I personally favor that system. And POW's already are slaves, sorta, at least according to my training; they have to perform work without pay.
