tbh he made a lot of money off of rich kids with more money than sense, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't impressed at the boldness of his con.

No offense, Lincoln, but your train of thought here is delving into Time Cube levels of incoherence.

Also, I get that McFarland commuted a crime, but I don't see any real wrongdoing. A bunch of gullible rich asswipes got scammed out of some money and treated a very short, catered camping trip (which is what it boiled down to) like it was the end of the world. It made my Twitter feed at least 70% more hilarious than normal.

There is no crime worse than W.

Also capitalism isn't a religion... what are you talking about?

No, it's a false religion. It doesn't do what it says. It can't give you a minute back or save you when you're in trouble. People act like it isn't, but why then do people try so hard to join that 1% that is so rich ? Why do people try to get billions of dollars ?

( oh yeah, I just recently added the page you can look uo to get the complete story http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/fyr ... d=48390789 )

In order for something to be a false religion it at least has to be somewhat religious. Capitalism isn't that

Yeah, a lot of religions don't actually do what they say (or else there'd be a lot more stonings). No religion or ideology can actually "give you a minute back" or "save you when you're in trouble", unless you believe the afterlife will do that somehow. And maybe people like having money so that they can purchase things they want? What's religious there?

It's because what they think having money will do for them. Can it buy back anytime that is lost ? No. Can it buy back your way to healthiness ? no. If you spend all your time chasing Almighty Dollar, you will miss so much.
Listen, i am poor. Yet, even as poor as I am, I am not miserable. I have life, which even for a billion dollars you can't buy. No, at the end of your life, people will realize that money can't do anything for them-can't buy a minute or second back, can't buy health or happiness, can't do anything. People will wonder why they spent so much of there time chasing a dumb and deaf piece of paper around and they will regret all the years they spent chasing the thing.

I mean yeah, except until you get the tax forms and you're suddenly scrambling to find those deaf green pieces of paper. Maybe money can't buy back time you lost (but nothing can anyway, because that would decrease entropy ^_^), but it buys you peace of mind. Anyone who says money can't buy happiness has obviously never had student loans.

Lots of rich people aren't miserable either. Social class and personal political ideology doesn't equate to happiness, but not having the IRS bang on your door every 10 minutes is a good way to start.

"Money Worshipper Billy McFarland Arrested and Charged With W"
Pretty sure tungsten isn't a criminal offence anywhere... :P

But yeah... justified. I can more than understand the maximum prison sentence - after all, fraudsters can't separate people and their cash forever - but what happens in 2037 when McFarland is set free and does another Fyre (if he does)?

Oh boy a rich con getting rekt, pretty decent. I now know "money worshiping" is a thing and I believe I have even less faith in humanity and that is amazing.

Conning people is dick-ish, and the people who aren't rich, the vast majority of the population, might enjoy a rich dick getting punished.

To be a false religion requires it to first be a religion.
You're making no sense.

It's a reference to the After The End CK2 mod.

Consumerism: The followers of this religion believe that the Almighty Dollar caused The Event because Americans did not conduct the ritual known as the shopping enough.

Funny :lol2: The power of consumerism compels you reminded me of the exorcist. So that's why I posted that.

A billion dollars puts a lot of power in your hands.
