I haven't found a way of blaming Brexit yet; but give me another 24 hours and I'm sure I'll find a way of holding David Davis personally responsible, just you wait and see.

Social mobility means many things, not just a homeless guy literally becoming Donald Trump. Peoples lives improving is a positive thing even if it is under Capitalism and if you're opposing the improvement of peoples lives and living standards well you're pretty regressive.
Dejanic wrote:Questers wrote:I'm clearly not opposing improving anyones lifestyle. But meritocracy in this sense is not what I am looking for. For example the Social Mobility Commission is actually also the Child Poverty Commission which is an important thing to look at: we should work to reduce the amount of children in poverty because children being in poverty is bad, not because it makes it harder for Gavin from the estate to become Donald Trump if he is born in poverty.
Ignoring your anti-poor garbage here (Gavin from the estate NEEDS to stay in the estate) it's nice to see you admit you're wrong.

i'm willing to bet if you took that same psychopath and raised them in a loving and supportive home that installed a respectable moral compass, they wouldn't be a criminal

One of the biggest problems with our society is that its ideology is based on "I'm willing to bet that X, Y, Z..."
Hey I'm willing to bet I can make a bridge out of toilet paper. You drive over it first though.

Betting is a good "tax on bullshit" as B. Caplan puts it. Certainly applying the EMH to opinions would allow people to see which ones were useful and which ones weren't.
and speaking of psychopaths

One of the best things about travelling when it snows in the UK is watching horrified foreigners realise quite how badly we cope. You can see them thinking ‘Leave the EU? You can’t even make it out of Tottenham Hale.’

Brexit takes UK closer to American economy and their environmental standards under Trump, therefore it weakens the efforts towards climate change prevention. That means increased pace of global warming, and slowing down of the gulf stream hence causing UK to be colder and causing snow. Actually more snow would be one of few benefits of Brexit.
