Some great news that Sergei Skripal has finally been able to leave hospital despite the Novichok poisoning.

I feel that the UK and Russia should take a step back from the diplomatic rift and hear Skripal’s side of the story.

Thought this could be interesting to share for people who might not be as familiar with them. There are 208 (iirc) border crossings between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, this is a map of them

There is one section of road used fairly frequently by lorries that crosses the border 4 times (I think that's the number.) and doesn't have other routes, it's basically a straight line.

NI-> I-> NI -> I. A border check along that road would completely fuck everything up about transporting goods there, and lead it to become extremely congested, essentially turning part of both ireland and northern ireland into a pointless queue of trucks waiting for the ones in front to pass three seperate checks despite the road only being able to take this route, just in case a lorry managed to sneak across the countryside hills and stuff and insert itself into the queue, so you gotta check it three times, obvs.

The only sensical approach is to adjust our citizenship laws. We're not allowed to render people stateless, but those born in NI get both British and Irish citizenship anyway.

We adjust the rules so there's border checks between NI and the rest of the UK and tell the DUP to get the fuck over it.
We adjust citizenship rules so people born in NI get Irish citizenship, or British if they are born to British parents inside NI, and then that's that and we don't have to deal with EU migrants abusing the border to get british citizenship and so on.

Well who knows that might actually end up happening sooner than a lot of people think. Since brexit ive known of quite a few unionists who have gotten irish passports and have said they would rather stick in the EU and if that meant joining the republic they would be for it. And this goes for plenty of lukewarm nationalists who were unsure if it would be better to unify with ireland or not at the moment.

Before brexit the idea of unification was as far as i was concerned incredibly idealistic and would not happen for decades at the minimum. Now.. i could honestly see it being a reality relatively soon. Its going to cause shit no doubt, plenty of protests, riots and maybe some of the loyalist paramilitaries will stop murdering one another over drugs to detonate the odd bomb or carry a mass shooting here or there, though i would never expect anything on the scale of the troubles, and even during the troubles those fellas could never match republican paramilitaries in scale of operation or effectiveness anyway.
