Regarding the Windrush scandal: usually, when governments change, a lot of the policies start anew, apart from the projects already in progress, like Crossrail.

I find it hard to imagine how Labour could order the destruction of the Landing Cards, if it was after June 2010.

And even if they did, the Conservatives could've blocked it and they didn't.

Abbott even predicted this would happen

No she didn't, because this isn't a case about British nationals, it is a case about people with indefinite leave to remain / permanent residence having their status questioned.

So it seems the Lords have voted to require ministers to report on steps to negotiate a continued union with the EU.

I get the feeling the papers aren't going to like this exercise of parliamentary sovereignty.

lol someone got arrested and convicted for posting a rap lyric online. it was considered a hate crime and one of the cops had a whinge about how the word that you can't post in case you get arrested ahahahahaha is very very bad and makes her feel sad.

the term "grossly offensive" was always a bad idea. it should have never existed. we were warned that it would lead to stupid shit like this and the warnings were 100% correct. can't fucking believe there are still people that ironically defend this shit.
ask moderation about reading serious moderation candidates TGs without telling them about it until afterwards and/or apparently refusing to confirm/deny the exact timeline of TG reading ~~~ i hope you never sent any of the recent mods or the ones that got really close anything personal!

The Liverpool Echo reported that Russell's defence had argued the usage of the word had changed over time and it had been used by superstar rapper Jay-Z "in front of thousands of people at the Glastonbury Festival".

Consequently, Jay-Z is now wanted by the police.

It was always a terrible idea, yes, and it's one of the major reasons the right wing is still a functioning political wing, the ridiculous demands of the progressive left and the crapshoot society that results from them. It'll carry on until people on the left start taking a stand about it and telling them that we no longer give any credence to their opinions on the matter of offence or prejudice, and their pronouncements that something is misogynist or racist are worthless to us.

It was Labour that did it to protect the feelings of Feminists and Muslims and prevent the criticism of their absolute nonsense.

There is an out of control trolley speeding towards Jeremy Bentham, who is tied to the track. You can pull the lever to cause the trolley to switch tracks, but on the other track is Immanuel Kant. Bentham is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Critique of Pure Reason. Kant is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Principles of Moral Legislation. Both men are shouting at you that they have recently started to reconsider their ethical stances.

In other news this happened. The Scots and Welsh won't be happy with this, though the UK government are perfectly entitled to do it - though it doesn't happen very often, and the cases raise very interesting (but technical) points of law

The offices referring the legislation to the Supreme Court include the Advocate General for Scotland.

Though the current Advocate General is indeed a Tory life peer, the Advocate General's office is separately the UK government's chief advisory body on Scots Law. If the Advocate General's office is supporting a referral to the Supreme Court, presumably under Section 33 of the 1998 Scotland Act, then some form of clarification is likely necessary. Neither the Attorney General nor the Advocate General are seeking to overturn the legislation; only clarify the constitutional issues surrounding responsibility for legislation.

We just need to fire everybody in the police service and judiciary, ban those in it from serving and start all over again.

Hand them a big Trump you're fired meme in their emails Friday evening.

I have a big urge to post the lyrics here.

Arch I have a fair amount of respect for you, but that's not quite the case. Most of the legislative referrals I've seen have involved questions about whether such-and-such a bill was within the devolved parliament's legislative competence (the A-G and Adv-G will say they weren't, in this case). The advocate-General is a member of the government by tradition, just like the Lord Advocate and Counsel General are part of the Scots and Welsh governments respectively. So, while the Attorney-General and Advocate General will argue that the two bills are beyond legislative competence, the Lord Advocate and Counsel General will both argue that they are within competence (see the Schedules to the Scotland Act and Schedule 7 (I think) to the Government of Wales Act)

As someone who lives in NI I’m just tired that we haven’t had a government in over a year. The Country in my opinion is falling apart and brexit just makes it worse.

You have a government, in Westminster. You just don't have a devolved government, which is evidently not too important in running NI. :)

as always, i agree elements of the progressive left have made things worse but give a reminder that right wing parties and media outlets also support these laws to a certain or great extent

Yeah, I know, but there are times where - if I had more money - I would happily move to another country. Not that it would be perfect, but atm I am just so sick of being in England. This plume, the politicians, the mockery of Brexit...I just want it all to stop.

For as much as we complain, Brexit has very little effect on most people's everyday lives. Politics suck in every country, and pollution is being tackled, albeit slowly.
