I liked that he wasn't bullied by Israel or American Jews. And that his support wasn't unconditional. I also think it was wise to oppose any unilateral action by the USSR to send in forces, which would have changed the conflict from proxy to possibly direct. And re-establishing relations with Egypt was definitely a plus. Rarely does ignoring somebody you dislike solve anything.

Ignoring those we don't like can be effective, just not on a country level, especially not with a country as valuable as Egypt.

Maybe it’s time to accept we did the right thing?

Isn't West Libya the part of Libya pretty much under control of the pro-Islamist side of the government?

I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but people move during Civil Wars. According to one of the maps,

the West is actually very anti-Ghadaffi. That's if we take the current population into account. In 1991, there were 194,190 Serbs living in Kosovo. Today it's less than 26,000. As a result, pro-Serb parties are probably not going to get the same support they once had in Kosovo. Especially if they have trade-able organs.

I’m not sure you know this but this is actually a more relevant map.

As we can see the area around Tripoli and Benghazi are actually loyal to BSh and Csa whereas the rest of the country are acolytes of BWh.

Israel killed a Palestinian man apparently picking parsley (or doing something suspicious, according to the Israelis), in the lead-up to a planned two week protest where Palestinians are planning on camping out near the Israeli border. A protest Israel is less than pleased about, especially considering the US is moving our embassy to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv against the wishes of the international community in May, something that could rile up the Palestinians further.

Assad seems to be scum, but I'm not a fan of civil war either. I don't see good things in Syria's future no matter what happens, to be honest.

Just give Gaza to Egypt and West Bank to Jordanians. And stop occupying Golan heights.

This is best solution, but the one everyone hates and no one will agree on
"Those who reached my boundary, their seed is not; their hearts and their souls are finished forever and ever. As for those who had assembled before them on the sea, the full flame was their front before the harbour mouths, and a wall of metal upon the shore surrounded them. They were dragged, overturned, and laid low upon the beach; slain and made heaps from stern to bow of their galleys, while all their things were cast upon the water." - Ramesses III., Battle of the Delta

Ok, but in all seriousness, the Syrian Civil war even happening is Assad's fault. You don't fucking bring out Tanks when people protest. They won't go back home. They'll push back, and they'll push back hard. At this point, he can't even do anything to stop it, too many factions are at play, and at this point he's not even a player in the game. He's given up his own account to Iran/Russia, and he's just watching the chaos unfold. Of course, the war could have been stopped at any time this last, what, four years had the sides (ISIS excluded) came to parlay, but now? now it's not going to. It's beneficial for all international parties involved if the war goes on and fucking on.
