You watch a comedian, and are upset you get jokes instead of the Democratic Party platform?

I'm not "upset" about anything. That's an emotion. I'm thinking logically here. What I disagree with is making the same tired jokes ad nauseum instead of providing an alternative.

But it's not the job of comedians and randos online to make a platform? The Democrats do have a message, you know, people were complaining about it earlier in this very thread (lightheartedly, tho), and you could always swing by the Democratic thread if you ever doubt that.
Your complaints are like if I took all the rambling against Obama that Alex Jones (I assume) did and take that to mean Republicans and the Right have no vision.

Well, it's a comedy show/political satire show. It's going to focus on making jokes about current events, and Trump tends to draw a lot of attention, his connections to Russia especially. If you want theDemocratc agenda, go read the Democratic agenda.

But people like Colbert double as political commentators as much as they are comedians.

Trump isn't insane. Egotistical. Arrogant. Pompous. Etc. But he's not insane. He doesn't want a nuclear holocaust anymore than say Obama did or even Kim Jong Un. All we have seen is posturing. Granted there is a very real danger from doing that, but you're treating it like we elected a mad Targaryen to the WH. Rather he's Robert towards the end. Drinking and fucking.
Ah, but Trump doesn't drink.

WASHINGTON—Straightening his synthetic wig before casually approaching a nearby lunch table, a disguised Chief of Staff John Kelly reportedly set down his tray, pulled over a chair, and said “Leaking sure is cool, huh, guys?” to a group of White House aides dining in the West Wing commissary Tuesday. “Anybody else just love leaking information to the press, or have any fun leaking stories they want to tell? It’s totally cool if you do; everybody’s doing it,” said Kelly, who then asked the group what their “absolute favorite things to leak” were before taking a bite of his sandwich and intently observing the staffers’ reactions from behind his prop glasses. “I was thinking about getting a group together to hang out and do some leaking this afternoon. How about it? Who’s game for a couple of brewskies and calling the New York Times to share confidential information about the president on condition of anonymity? I’m buying!” As of press time, more than half a dozen newspapers had printed accounts from unnamed White House sources alleging that Kelly was already succumbing to the pressures of overseeing the Trump administration and likely wouldn’t last much longer in his role.

The door to the Oval Office used to be wide open, with favored officials drifting in and out — even in the middle of meetings — to kibitz with Trump.
Now, the door is closed. Gen. John Kelly, the new White House chief of staff, has taken control in dramatic fashion, and is already imposing unmistakable signs of order after just a few days on the job:
Even POTUS appears to be trying to impress his four-star handler, picking up his game by acting sharper in meetings and even rattling off stats.
Meetings are shorter and stick to their scheduled topic.
Everyone — even uber-aides Jared and Ivanka, and economic adviser Gary Cohn — is being deferential to Kelly.
Be smart: The most consequential workplace in America has been one of the most dysfunctional. General Kelly took an instantly assertive tack, and some of the overt shenanigans stopped overnight.
But the ultimate boss has no plans to really change. (Yesterday he tweeted: "Only the Fake News Media and Trump enemies want me to stop using Social Media (110 million people). Only way for me to get the truth out!") And the new internal order will remain only as long as he plays along.

They're not getting it until campaign season.
Being a minority party and all, advocating your platform only sets your base up for edgy disillusionment and disappointment.

Speaking of that, I firmly believe we need to bridge the gap between the rhetoric of social justice and the perceptions of everyday white people. The Democratic party will continue to suffer if it continues with the identity politics of 2016, where the logic of identity politics essentially imploded on itself. When a small minority of Hispanics stated their intention to vote for Trump, they were mocked and ridiculed for somehow betraying their race and voting against their own self-interest. When Trump's inauguration was held, any black artists who would perform for Trump were mocked as Uncle Toms, or compared to performers in a racist 1930's minstrel show. When Hispanics are pressured to vote as Hispanics, and blacks are pressured to vote as blacks, the inadvertent effect is that whites will vote as whites, and when whites vote as whites, whodoya think they're gonna vote for?
