Well, this is McCain's last term, so for him this is the end of the road, and he knows it. Conservatives cannot touch him anymore.

Murkowski could be in a rough situation in 2022, but her constituents probably will re-elect her even as a write in because of this move. Apparently her move was popular enough in her home state to make a difference.

The only one that's vulnerable is Collins, but we'll see.

Murkowski is both principled and is playing the long game. She is smart enough to know that a fucking lot can change over the course of 6 years, and it's very possible the entire narrative will have shifted in a completely different direction. Voted against today only to come around and work out a better deal tomorrow is a lot easier of a sell to her constituents in six years than devastating the healthcare system and trying to pick up the mess.

Not to mention she likely is doing what is best for her state, and fuck the polls.

I disagree with the mandate, don't get me wrong.

I just don't see how the Republicans thought that THIS was the way to deal with it.

Just to break down his tweet..

3 Republicans and 48 Democrats let the American people down.

No, 51% of the vote.. sometimes getting more votes actually results in a win

As I said from the beginning, let ObamaCare implode, then deal.

No, you really didn't, you said you would replace immediately on coming into office with something awesome, then you said repeal and replace later, then you said let it implode, then you said you need a vote now, then...

Watch!

Unfortunately we can't tear ourselves away..

It has to, else the healthcare system would implode almost overnight to a point even worse than what seems to be going on now. Even the mere concept of repealing the mandate would likely create chaos in the healthcare industry as uncertainty abounds towards whether or not they can afford to stay open at all, let alone long enough for the utterly dysfunctional Republican party to sort their shit out.

It'd be really hard for the court to rule the mandate unconstitutional without also wiping out large swaths of deductions and credits in the tax code, given they function roughly identically legally.

Twitter's not any better. Trump supporters and conservatives at Twitter are having a meltdown, and tons of salt thrown around, including people who are accusing McCain of being spiteful and bitter and part of the swamp.

After all the shit Trump is doing, and did to him during the election, can we blame the man for trying to tell Trump to go fuck himself?

I'd posted this earlier but it was a bit out of context and last post on the page but..

I don't live in the US so technically it doesn't affect me.. I get this..

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/nathan-le ... 99907.html

In fact, as I live on an island a serious medical emergency would require helicopter transportation, which would cost me.. HK$100.. or about $12..

It utterly baffles me as to why a country would not provide a strong degree of healthcare, and it doesn't mean private hospitals can't exist at all.

This system of government-operated hospitals, open to all citizens, costs the Hong Kong government about 3% of GDP. Three percent! Private hospitals, used mainly by the wealthy, and all other health care services bring Hong Kong’s total health care spending to about 6% of GDP. Compare that to about 16% in the U.S. today, and rising.

Three percent of GDP is less than half of the 7.5% of GDP that is already being spent by U.S. governments on health care.

Obamacare isn't great but it's as much as can be done given the environment.. the R's would take it backwards.

Certainly though, whatever your feelings, most of us can agree he was better than what came before and after.
