Wow, the Obamacare law is pretty resilient. :p

This post does not imply my support for or opposition to said law.

Well, once you go black I guess.

Well, the Obamacare bill is huuuuuuuuuuuuuge. This "skinny" Trumpcare was a meager, unimpressive little thing. Size isn't everything, but... :P

I can only imagine Trump's response will be..

'You win some you lose some, nice try guys, maybe we need to think about creating a real plan #waytogo'

Cos he's classy like that.

I think you assume Trump will demonstrate a level of basic human decency he does not possess.

Hell I'm not a Mccain admirer, but I'll respect his courage on that bill, some of the Repubs clearly don't like being threatened by the White House. But that's all Trump knows how to do. Threaten.

I'd be all in favour of saying 'screw you' to all of them and pushing for single-payer US healthcare. Basic law of negotiation is start by going much further than what you actually intend, and let them work you down to your actual position. If Dems did that instead of assuming the other Congressional lot aren't filled with crazy nuts who don't really give a crap about healthcare or the national interest or anything, they might have achieved better results than even the ACA. I wonder something we'll probably never know.

McCain personally orchestrated this. He got it brought up for vote. The deciding vote in that procedural hurdle. He used that opportunity to dress down Congress. Then he waited, quietly, until the critical moment and murdered the bill he allowed to live.

How much of that was him thinking the bill was bad, how much was a lesson to the Senate not to become the house, and how much was "fuck you very much for mocking my war record Donald".

Well, this is McCain's last term, so for him this is the end of the road, and he knows it. Conservatives cannot touch him anymore.

Murkowski could be in a rough situation in 2022, but her constituents probably will re-elect her even as a write in because of this move. Apparently her move was popular enough in her home state to make a difference.

The only one that's vulnerable is Collins, but we'll see.

I keep bringing this up, but I think it bears repeating that i'm sure the whole mess over the transgender is not helping a lot of military veteran's view of Trump. Not because McCain necessarily has any love for the LGBTQ community and their causes, but rather because of how insultingly out of protocol Trump approached it, and how Trump effectively threw the Joint Chiefs and military under the bus with it. More on how the move was disrespectful and less on what the move entailed.

McCain is kind of a stickler for that sort of thing, and it just seems like he's fucking done with the circus that Trump has created around Washington, and with how Trump seems to think that everybody is there to do his bidding.

Not the major tipping point, mind you, just a contributing factor on a massive pile of shit. I feel like McCain like would have gotten to this point without having cancer, but knowing his time is coming up short likely put a lot into perspective.
