As to the transgender military thing, I don't really get it. Transgenders make up a tiny fraction of the military, so I don't really see how there's any overwhelming cost that would justify barring them from service. Also, the military offers all kind of incentives to get people to join. I don't really see why transgenders shouldn't have their gender reassignment surgeries paid for if they're willing to serve. Any able-bodied American should be permitted to serve their country if they want to.

I would have to say that overall, I'm in favor of US colleges/universities getting punished or hurt in some way. The fact is that much of higher education costs too much and has bullshit requirements such as medical schools requiring an undergraduate degree before someone is allowed to get into actual medical school when all they want is to learn what is relevant to becoming a doctor, dentist, or what have you.

This drives up the time it takes to enter into certain career fields and increases the cost of tuition more than it has to be. Doesn't help that universities spend a lot of the money they get on stupid stuff that doesn't benefit most students. A ton of the liberal arts programs (lets admit it) are nothing but liberal propaganda.

I have first hand experience with almost all of this as a 2 year degree college graduate. My main objections are the needlessly high barriers to entry that colleges artificially impose and the unlimited growth in tuition. It is high time that the College Board and people like them, get significant push back or consequences for financially squeezing the American people dry. Whoever is responsible for tuition getting out of control behind the scenes- they need to know that the "party" is coming to an end.

Ideally, there is going to be significantly cheaper, but substantial sources of competition against traditional universities which will be good enough to steal demand away from them and significantly push their tuition back down to more accurately reflect what supply and demand will bear.

Uhm... med school in most other countries last the same amount of time, 8-12 years, and it's not just for shits and giggles.

Med school students in the US have it lucky to have their major and med school training separate. Many other countries combine them for a "super-degree".

It's a public rebuke. If all they are saying is they're waiting official marching orders, then they would in no shape or form have stated this publicly and would have gone through the back channels to request further instruction.

It's something that has really irked me about a lot of the conservatives in support of it since Trump announced it yesterday. I've had to listen to them bandy about how if So-and-so want Such-And-Such treatment paid for, they should join the military.

But now it's a problem that people join the military 'just' to get sex change operations. First, I don't see the problem if that's their reasoning to begin with. It's like people joining the military 'just' to get an education. People deciding to join the military to for the purpose of increasing their quality of life is not unique to trans individuals.

Even then, it's utterly insulting. They are choosing to put themselves into service for the country. They damn well deserve the damn sex change operation if they want it, just as those any body else damn well deserves any other treatment, and just as they damn well deserve their college paid for. If anyone deserves this sort of thing, its military personal. Who cares if its not for the 'right' reasons, they are still doing it.
