I'm trying to think of a smartass answer to Galloism's quiz, to make up for my being first but getting it wrong (mostly ... there was a Navy Air Corps before the US Air Force, but Army Air Corps was earlier than it).

Someone mentioned the Signal Corps, and that gave me an idea ...

"First or Second world war?"
"Civil war"
"Wait, what? What did this ancestor fly?"
"He flew pigeons"

... doesn't really work does it?

Had a great-grandfather who served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. Flew DC-3's in Normandy, Battle of the Bulge. Sadly, he passed years ago.

What's this about Space Marines?

It will most likely work like NOAA or the public health corps does. Meaning it will be commissioned officers only
