Let's put this in perspective.

Kathy Griffith held a severed head in a photo and almost immediately apologized. This still got her fired from the one time she appears on CNN...during New Years where her only job is to make Anderson Cooper uncomfortable.

Ted Nugent saying this got him on Fox News where he remains.

So while it might be 'ten years ago', he's still riding the benefits of saying that and becoming a hero of the right.

Meanwhile, 'second amendment solutions' has been a code for elected officials, people who legitimately represent the Republican Party, for years now. Including Trump himself.

Now, if you think that this is a faulty comparison to a self-proclaimed D-list celebrity or a dude people were already mad at for beating his girlfriend, fine. But it's going to come off as a bit disingenuous.

Johnny Depp should not get a pass if he threatened the president. Anyone else would likely be arrested by the Secret Service. Celebrities should not get a pass if they commit a federal crime, which threatening the president is. If the government sees this as a threat, they should take all measures necessary to bring Johnny Depp to justice.

It's a joke. I consider the joke to be in very poor taste, and indeed rather offensive, but it's a joke and I've spent my whole life trying to defend people's right to make offensive poor taste jokes.
