So these students are lashing out at staff over a perfectly reasonable objection to telling whites to leave campus for the day, and even mocked one staffer who claimed (albeit unverifiably) to be claustrophobic, after demanding they be exempt from homework for student activism purposes, no less.

I think an order needs to come from on high that unless these students are suspended for the rest of the semester, every tax dollar ever given to this college has to be repaid immediately; and if it doesn't have the money, to be shut down. If these staffers want to put up with this crap, that's their business, but this college has no right to use everyone else's tax dollars to train millenials to act like a bunch of god damn brats.

The plan for the program reversed the school's longstanding tradition of hosting an optional "Day of Absence and Day of Presence" during which students and faculty of color have left campus for a day of community discussion.

This year, the program included an optional anti-bias training for white students off campus and an optional educational program for students of color on campus. In response to backlash, Evergreen State has emphasized that its "Day of Absence" programs have always optional and said no white students or faculty members have ever been asked to leave campus.

There is a difference between asking people to consider leaving for the day and telling them to leave. You're either being dishonest or careless with your language - I'll leave it up to you to decide which.

Moreover the prof's objection seems pretty bizarre to me - the old formulation 'asked' students to leave to take part in the events too, but now that the racial categories have been reversed its now a problem?

Deal with the agitators, send an ultimatum to the Administration that this kind of behavior won't be tolerated, end the practice that caused the issue in the first place.

Focus more on actual education and less on well-meaning, but misguided ideals of creating discussions that could be better held in classrooms, rather than as general school practice.

Don't give college students, a group well know for their lack of inhibition, a reason to start a bloody riot in the first place.

When they use everyone else's tax dollars, and release these brats into the wild, they're making it our business.
