Because people generally are lazy and ignorant, and while it feels as if the government isn't doing anything they can't spend the energy to actually look into that. Feelz before realz, one might say, so throwing money at a percieved problem is OK with them - especially if it's people from Africa and/or muslims who'll suffer for it.

Deport them to Syria. Now hear me out for a minute. If we send them to Syria they can "protect Western civilization" by fighting IS directly and they'll no longer cause problems for the rest of us in their home country. Both sides are happy. It's a win-win.

It's a bad idea. Firstly because that's not deportation, it's exile. Secondly because you didn't ask Syria's permission before dumping your problem on them, thirdly ... need I go on?

Actually looking at the articles again I notice there seems to be two types of "Pirates".

There's this crowd funded alt-right group that haven't really done anything of account aside from make a minor nuisance of themselves.

And then there is a group of actual pirates that are most likely elements of the Greek Navy or Greek people working with the Greek navy who are simply acting like pirates by robbing people.
