Some Western governments don't exactly have an excuse. What country do you live in anyway?

Despite the best efforts of our local Green party, the country I live in is still known as Germany for the time being.

You can blame the EU for not asserting itself in the distribution of immigrants across Europe relative to the population of the country. With populous countries like Hungary and Poland opting out entirely it's no wonder the rest of the EU is faced with a heavier burden, Germany and Great Britain in particular. Blame these countries and EU's lacking assertiveness, not the migrants or immigration itself. Immigration can be done and managed right or fucked up.

The best way to prevent a refugee crisis like this is not participating with and sanctioning the United States for its imperialist wars in Middle East and North Africa. It's America which should carry the burden for the most part anyway firstly for causing it in the first place and secondly due to being able to take in larger amounts of refugees than any European nation. It should not be the responsibility of Europe primarily but secondarily due to its contribution to America's wars.
