4 great positives.

Sexy? I've heard smokers in the morning. I've smelled them. Nothing sexy about that.

Both really depend on your general health, the amount you smoke and just personal hygiene. Most smokers don't sound any different from non-smokers in the morning or at any other time during the day. Most who you've heard have this smoker's cough, something that really only occurs with long time and heavy smokers. Most people won't get it even when they have smoked for decades. The smell is really a matter of personal hygiene and the area in which you have been (smoking inside has of course a bigger effect on smell than smoking outside has).

I agree though that "sexy" is probably not something one should associate with smoking, and neither should "fun" and "cool" for that matter.

If you don't believe I can quit any time we can make that bet an official one; Seven days for a thousand euro's, take it or leave it.

If you've never tried to quit you don't know for sure that you can.

So before making any bets, I'd want to know if you've ever tried to quit, and how long you did quit for.

Seven days isn't actually quitting. You'll still want it seven days later, and it will be a lot easier for you to go those seven days if you've promised yourself you can smoke as much as you like after that.

And do you even have a thousand euro's?

I know I can because as mentioned before, its just a matter of mentality.

When I was younger there were occasions that I had to go on for a weekend or so without cigarettes duo to either a lack of money or because the shops were closed, but no, I never actively tried to quit.

Well, here's the quote from the person in question who brought it up:
Ambarii wrote:It's funny to me that you think quitting smoking is so easy, yet you've been doing it since you were twelve and haven't made any attempt to quit. I'd be willing to bet a lot of money that you couldn't go one week without a cigarette.

And yes, cigarettes are absolutely addictive. They have nicotine. Nicotine is very addictive.

So yeah, I wasn't the one who brought up the whole idea of putting a bet on it. Anyhow, it's kind of obvious that I would start again after those seven days as I have no intention to quit smoking permanently.

And don't you worry about those thousand euro's, I'm in a fairly comfortable position when it comes to my financial situation.

Personally, I don't. Which is a bit unusual, statistically speaking, as I come from a family of smokers. My mother, my father, my grandfathers, one of my grandmothers (the other one was more into snuff - go figure!), most of my uncles and aunts, and consequently both of my brothers smoke or used to smoke.

One of my brothers gave it up a few years back, but my mother and other brother are still hooked.
I never really understood it - the smell has always put me off, for as long as I can remember. It may well be one of the reasons I'm not at all close with my family now, who knows?

But I'm curious - do you smoke? When did you start, and why? Do you want to give it up? I would imagine it's pretty tough.
And what are the laws around it where you are?
Here in Ireland, advertising it isn't allowed, you can't even display the logos in shops where cigarettes are sold. You cannot smoke in offices, public buildings, public transport, pubs, restaurants or hotels. So it's very easy indeed for me to avoid the smell and the smoke.

Given my age, no. But if I get into the legal smoking age, I will never smoke. They are not cool, and harmful to a person's health, like causing cancer, for example. Anyway, in Indonesia, when it reach a certain time in the night, there will be cool cigar advertisements, that don't even contain smoking, but the methaporical fun from smoking.

Anyway, are there any smoking members of your family who suffered from cancer?

I have never smoked. I grew up in a household where everyone smoked far too much and from an early age I developed an aversion to how bad it made the house smell, how it made me choke and cough, and how my teachers were always accusing me of smoking because my school uniform reeked of cigarettes. My dad had an 80-a-day plus habit and ended up dying from smoking related lung, heart, and circulatory diseases as well as cancer before I got out of my teens. My eldest brother is only in his early 40s and has had COPD for many years, now he is being tested for the early signs of mouth and throat cancer.

In my case exposure actually help put me right off, that goes for both smoking and substance/alcohol abuse.* I know in many cases kids emulate their families but thankfully it can go the other way too.

The only time I smoked was when I was in college, I was at a bar and this hot blonde asked me if I wanted to go outside for a cigarette; not being a complete idiot, I said yes.

I actually did like it somewhat, but between knowing the effects of smoking and not liking it enough to justify plunking down $10 a pack, I never took it up.

I can understand it if someone tells me they smoke because they enjoy it. A lot of people do a lot of things I would find awful, like drinking coffee, or talking about team sports, and I do get that to them, that's enjoyable.

However, when I see those people wrapping themselves up in coats and scarves and gloves and hats only to go outside and stand in the driving rain, sleet and wind for 5 minutes for a cigarette, returning to their desks frozen, wet and rather miserable-looking, I do begin to doubt that they actually do that because they enjoy it.
"I was walking along the bank of a stream when I saw a mother otter with her cubs. A very endearing sight, and as I watched, the mother otter dived into the water and came up with a plump salmon, which she subdued and dragged on to a half-submerged log. As she ate it, while of course it was still alive, the body split and I remember to this day the sweet pinkness of its roes as they spilled out, much to the delight of the baby otters who scrambled over themselves to feed on the delicacy. One of nature’s wonders: mother and children dining upon mother and children. And that’s when I first learned about evil. It is built in to the very nature of the universe. If there is any kind of supreme being, I told myself, it is up to all of us to become his moral superior."

I don't, but that's because I'm under the age limit. Just one more year to go, then I have a choice. My sister and mom don't want me to smoke, though, because, according to them, one little puff causes an addiction and gives you lung cancer. I wanna try the pipe, though... it'd make me look classy.
