Who would want to search for someone who will only experience untold suffering if you go with him? Like sure, Job is biblical, but I don't think many of us would want to experience the same tribulations.

But eh. I'm 19, live at my parent's house, and I am still undergoing university education (will start second year in the autumn). So yeah, I'm not a NEET.

Yeah. Kinda feel I need to get a job: my aunt (Brenda) wants me to find a part-time job, actually. And I feel that my mom will want me to find a job in a couple years or so.

I doubt any parent would want their kid unemployed.

I'm currently a NET, since I graduated last year.

I was a NEET for five months this year. Unemployed life sucks. Even if I did it voluntarily.

Implicates your capacity to raise people who are self sufficient, no doubt. :/

At least, unless you want them as such; read a short story once about that situation, with a mother basically trapping her son in her emotional grip for his entire lifetime. Wasn't unemployed, but he definitely had no life beyond her.

Of course. But right now, my parents see my university studies as a "full time job."

Doesn't help that many people my age have jobs. ;)

And sometimes parents view a failed child as a "shame" on the family and don't want anyone outside to be involved or know about it, while not being able to provide the necessary support and training to get their kid work-ready themselves.

Family is a set of relationships like any other - can be functional, but can also be a self-destructive reputation-game mess.

I looked for the book with the story; Catholic, I think (Mostly skipped over the introduction and only really 'reading' that)

They've got a particular issue with it, true, but looking back I can tell that I only very narrowly avoided a similar fate.

At least that is looking after oneself, and not sponging off of mom and dad. (Can you tell who is getting ready to write a check to the university for fall).

This is true. Uni is a full time occupation.

I know several people who did not have to pay rent at home whole studying.
But as soon as they got a full time job, parents expected a bit of rent while still living in the home.
