If you read the comments section on the various clips, you'll typically find the fans of the book or the movie are two distinct groups. As for Paul Verhoeven, practically all of his American movies are subtlety criticisms of American Culture, so I think that fans such as myself focus on the aesthetics of the movie itself.

As for the 'aesthetics' the guns and armor of the infantry may as well be cardboard because thats what they look like.

The only way I'd ever consider democracy a problem today is if the Emperor was real enough for me to get one of those.

Tbh, there are aspects of the Imperium of Man I admire. The commitment to humanity as a whole and the embracing of religious faith (even if they are wrong).

I meant in terms of plot and such, but I also do really like the infantry gear in terms of looks and such.

Until someone pointed it out to me, I had never thought about the movie like that but in retrospect, it really is basically the Guard vs Tyranids.

That's because 40K is a rip off of dozens of iconic sci-fi stuff, most notably, Starship Troopers (the book) and Dune.

The Imperium's in a tough situation. I admire it greatly. But I also think that CIAPHIAS CAIN, HERO OF THE IMPERIUM is its epitome.

The fact that the Imperial Guard basically relies on sheer willpower and cooperation to stop the enemies of mankind is what really makes them the best faction in the game, and that's what I really admire about them; while 40K is undoubtedly a dystopia, humanity's redeeming qualities make it likable.

It's flawed to think that holding onto power is automatically bad. The comparison above in reality is pure republic propaganda. The fact of the matter is that if Caesar was as bad as republic propaganda tries to make him out to be he would not have been assassinated the way he did.

The primary reason Caesar was assassinated was due to the fact that most of his political enemies were pardoned. If Caesar was as bad as propaganda would make him out to be he would have used proscription against his political enemies when he took power and a large conspiracy would either not have happened or would have so little power behind it that carrying out an assassination would have been considered far too dangerous. Really Caesar was killed mainly because the senators felt they could get away with it. Karma worked quickly however because the senators soon got the far far less benevolent Augustus.

Daily reminder that Caesar was a savior of the republic, not an enemy of it, and it was the optimates who conspired against him who were the true enemies of the republic

Indeed. He was trying to reform it and keep it around. Augustus just killed everyone who couldn't be bought off and kept a modified version of the old improv shit in place, while the senators just wanted to get old and fat off war loot and taxes and leave everything like it was 509 BC.

The Republic had serious problems, though. I'd rather find some way to fix them rather than cope with them if I were around in those times.

Caeser couldn't even use his degeneracy to make bank. Sulla is the only acceptable Roman homosexual.

I guess chasing Rebellius around the provinces is fun but it gets tiring eventually, even for me. And trust me it is very fun to run down the rebel slaves and watch them wail, rout, and get smashed into the dirt by your horsemen.
