Well obviously, but it should've been a greater concern to the people upholding the law.

And before the fact what was the law suppose to do?

Be harsher in the first two cases of DWI, and also do a better job at rehabilitation?

Alcohol's just like any other drug yet for some dumbfuck reason we've normalized it into society like cigarettes were not too long ago.

harsher? a spanking perhaps? how would that help? the only way for him not to be able to drive is for him to have been in jail

Forcing him into an actually well-funded rehabilitation clinic and revoking his license until he'd passed the course could also work. Luckily in America though, we don't think logically, because alcohol's good and anything that happens due to it is just an unforeseen tragedy and not actually the result of a malicious drug that should've stayed banned after it was banned the first time around!

People get killed in DWI's all the time around the USA. 13 isn't a mind boggling number, it's just big story because fancy part of new york.

Taking license away and jail time is not enough, as sales of alcohol should probably be tightened up a bit or something. My biggest concern is if the affected families get what they need, the drunk driver also being imprisoned.

There are cases where a DWI kills several people and thedrunk gets no punihsment while the affected family is out loved ones andpossibly even financial stability. Even tho there's no question that a crime was commit against their fmaily.

It is shame, but I don't particularlly care if it was intentional or not. You DWI with car and kill people, you get severe punishment. Simple.

you are just making it up as you go.

he is a known spice user. his preliminary drug screen came up positive (and they often false positive), what the drug was is going to take a week or no

and none of this has to do with booze

"Unintended acceleration" as we call it over here (stamping on the accelerator instead of the brake, and then stamping harder on the accelerator because you thought you hit the brake and you're panicking because you're not stopping), is actually more common in an automatic because there is no clutch.

Unintended acceleration is usually resolved in a short period of time. Stamping on accelerator, than realizing it's not working, so you hit the brakes. Continuing down 3 city blocks and running as many people over as you can, especially in a crowded metropolitan area on extremely narrow roads where there exists many physical obstacles, isn't unintended.

I agree with the statement of drunk driving happens more than terrorists using cars to run people over, so any time someone runs someone over, we can't just assume MUSLIMS. But considering the context that the driver managed to avoid a number of obstacles such as the walls of buildings, etc. he had managed to control his vehicle to prolong his 'rampage' and cause as many casualties as he could.

As news has come out that he wanted to "Kill them" and that he wanted the Police to "kill him."

This was obviously not the case of a drunk driver with acceleration problems.

I admit I haven't read the most recent news on this case, but if this did start as an accident, he quickly made the decision to go on a rampage in a metropolitan area.

It is then reasonable for people, who when this was first reported, to believe that this was a terror attack, because of the multiple characteristics such attacks share in common. As new facts come to light, only then is it problematic to hold onto the first opinion or assumption.
