Chelsea Manning Released from prison

Chelsea Manning's prison term, which was cut down to 7 years from 35 in one of Obama's final acts in office, has ended this morning with her release today from the United States Disciplinary Barracks at 2:00 am.

What do you think about this, NSG? Is Ms.Manning a hero or a villain for her leaking of classified documents? Considering her life and her story, is she bound to remain a public figure, or for her own good slip into the life of a private one?

In my opinion, it's good that she's been freed, especially considering her history of attempting suicide in prison and holding a hunger strike in order to receive gender transition surgery.

I think the altered sentence was more appropriate and now that it has been served she should be seen as a member of society like any other.
That the sentence was ultimately pointless due to the overemphasis on punishment rather than rehab and that she along with most criminals are probably unduly crippled by their time spent behind bars, but that this is a systemic issue rather than one specific to this case.

The motives and behavior of her actions were not treasonous or treacherous.
Giving the benefit of the doubt she sought to help the public, and taken uncharitably was imagining herself a hero without bothering to look into the consequences of her actions.

The high sentence given did not seem appropriate, the lower one Obama mandated does.

She is neither a hero nor a villain. There were means by which she could have legitimately leaked the noteworthy documents in a safe manner and chose not to.

As for her leaks, after a quick review, it seems to apparent to me she only leaked what she deemed to be atrocities that needed to be known. So I respect her

Well for one thing she isn't in the military anymore, she won't have any where near the same intel she had before her arrest

It was treason and also Manning did endanger their fellow Soldiers in the Army by the acts they did.

I would also like to point out that Manning should never have gotten into such a position first, and was possibly neither mentally suited to serve in the Military.

If you going to read the Logs of the conversation between Manning and Adrian Lamo (which have been published by "Wired") you can clearly tell that they did have some mental instabilities, insecurities and problems within the Army which led to those actions.

I agree. This person is not heartless, and they believed what they were doing was just.
