Those aren't rumors

The fact that North Korea needs money more than it needs chemical weapons, the fact that sodium cyanide is a chemical used in the manufacture of crystal methamphetamine and the fact that North Korea has literally become Walter White and been forcing it's diplomats to sell said crystal meth on the streets, not to mention it's the most widely used drug in the country, all points towards this being not for furthering it's chemical weapons program but towards more...nefarious purposes.

In saying that, you have to wonder if there's any difference between making chemical weapons and hard drugs.

Nefarious purpose like what? Funding research, development, and production of nukes and military wares

Drugs dude drugs and a fucking lot of them

It'd like no one understands the purpose of a patent in this thread. It's not like they are not making the stuff because they don't hAve patent protection.

So the question should be, how does getting north Korea a patent on this process, either help the regime to do evil, or help the world by attemptING to integrate north Korea into a worldwide system. Showing them the benefits of cooperating with the world.
The West won the world not by the superiority of its ideas or values or religion … but rather by its superiority in applying organized violence. Westerners often forget this fact; non-Westerners never do.

The most fundamental problem of politics is not the control of wickedness but the limitation of righteousness.

Well then maybe they're using it to make meth. North Korea is a shitty country after all. Point is, this isn't some sign of horrible incompetence on the UNs part, as it's a.)a patent and b.)got legitimate uses that NK could feasibly need it for

Maybe most people aren't reporting it, because it's a god damn patent application. It's technology that North Korea already has, or is in the process of producing, for a chemical compound they have the capabilities to make, with uses North Korea feasibly has for non-weapons purposes.

The UN can't stop them from making this chemical, they aren't involved in the North acquiring or producing this chemical.

The only ones who are reporting on it are Fox and then mostly idiots who just quote Fox and ramble about tax dollars, bureaucracy, Obama and so on. Fox exaggerated and/or lied shamelessly.
A pretty decent piece on it I found here: http://www.americanthinker.com/articles ... again.html
It goes into the meat of the chemical background and puts the facts into perspective. Even if you ignore the political comments in the link, the pure chemical facts are sufficient to dismantle the Fox story.
for example:
Tabun is the only nerve agent that requires cyanide, and Tabun is not a good candidate for manufacture. Sarin and VX are superior agents. They're more lethal and no more difficult to manufacture, and they fulfill the requirements for a volatile offensive agent (sarin) or a persistent defensive agent (VX). Tabun and Soman are in between. They are simply inferior analogs discovered during the research.

So really no reason to freak out about a compound (NaCN) the US produces 2 billion pounds of per year.
