North Korea had a chemical weapons program long before it had nuclear weapons. It's way more likely that North Korea would use this chemical to produce crystal methamphetamine for it's diplomats to sell overseas.

North Korea wouldn't register a patent with the UN purely so it could make chemical weapons. The regime has been in existence for over six decades. If it hadn't already had a well developed chemical weapons program by the 1970's, why start now?

The fact that North Korea needs money more than it needs chemical weapons, the fact that sodium cyanide is a chemical used in the manufacture of crystal methamphetamine and the fact that North Korea has literally become Walter White and been forcing it's diplomats to sell said crystal meth on the streets, not to mention it's the most widely used drug in the country, all points towards this being not for furthering it's chemical weapons program but towards more...nefarious purposes.

In saying that, you have to wonder if there's any difference between making chemical weapons and hard drugs.

It'd like no one understands the purpose of a patent in this thread. It's not like they are not making the stuff because they don't hAve patent protection.

Maybe most people aren't reporting it, because it's a god damn patent application. It's technology that North Korea already has, or is in the process of producing, for a chemical compound they have the capabilities to make, with uses North Korea feasibly has for non-weapons purposes.

The UN can't stop them from making this chemical, they aren't involved in the North acquiring or producing this chemical.

It goes into the meat of the chemical background and puts the facts into perspective. Even if you ignore the political comments in the link, the pure chemical facts are sufficient to dismantle the Fox story.
