I think Ireland will do well, But they will probably not qualify in my opinion. They will perform in the second semi-final, and that's the real deal, with Serbia, Romania, Denmark, and Bulgaria, 4 very powerfull songs. I think it will finish 16th in the semi :p

It's fairly generic Eurovision fare. Anything especially good or novel or sung by half-naked women will beat it.

France has an OK entry this year, which is still such a recent phenomenon that I haven't yet had time to accustom myself to. She doesn't seem like a contender though, which is alright, Eurovision is expensive to host so whatever.

I wasn't aware that Portugal had released their entry, and that it was ranked so well. It sounds like a Disney song, so I guess it's OK.
I'm surprised by Armenia's high score... But the song is good I guess.

I really don't like Italy's entry. I understand that it is supposed to be so cool for some reason, but I just don't get it.

In conclusion, I would be satisfied if literally anyone, anyone other than Sweden wins. Sweden's entry sounds like the working man's Justin Timberlake, and frankly they've won far too often.

I can't really make any predictions, because my musical taste doesn't seem to really coincide with the rest of Europe's (and that's before you account for the political voting). Personally my favourites are Georgia, France, Cyprus, and Moldova, which inevitably means that all four of them will do terribly.

typical Ozzies, don't know when it's polite to leave the party

amusing though, I watched a documentary a couple of months ago, that claimed that it was Australian drag queens who made ABBA famous AND orchestrated the revival, so I can imagine those same Australians liking Eurovision

I don't listen to the entries before the contest because I think that'd ruin the show for me. All I know is that even if Britain weren't, you know, Britain, our song still wouldn't win. It's not bad, but it's not good either.

Is it strange that 32 of the 37 entries are in English, how is that a showcase for European Culture and National Pride?

Should the old language rule be reinstated and Eurovision contestants be required to sing in a language of their nation? or do we just accept that English is the Lingua Franca of Europe?

is Eurovision just an international X-Factor Talent Quest for singers to breakthrough into the 'world market'?

I'd like to bring back that rule, but it did basically lead to Ireland winning virtually every year. Perhaps if entries were required to be at least partially in a national language?

The Belgian alternating between French and Flemish at least meant France wasn't wholly alone in singing in French every year.

But I insist that this rule can only be brought back if Malta is forced to enter with its constitutional national language rather than its second national language; Eurovision clearly needs more singing in Maltese.

I'd also like to ban Australia - which only goes to show how much weight my opinion carries with the organisers.
