Really? I'd have thought they'd have some zero rank below private for those in training.

Private or PV1 as it's called in the Army is the lowest possible rank in the military. Most guys in recruit training are either E-1 or E-2 which would be PV1, PV2 for the Army and Private, PFC for the USMC

I am philosophically and politically opposed to conscription. If my national government is so inept at self-preservation that it has to dedicate a portion of its force projection and law enforcement manpower towards coercively lining up human shields at gunpoint in front of it to keep from being overrun by its percieved hostiles, it isn't fighting for anything worth fighting for.

If the cause were worthy, you wouldn't have to draft anyone to rally for it.

They basically do: there's Private (E-1), that everybody starts on, and Private (E-2) that is basically an automatic promotion after 6 months.

you can skip e-1 and go directly to E-3 and E-4 if you have the right credentials.

If WW2 is any barometer, any conflict that required mass conscription would likely end voluntary enlistment as well, to prevent people from leaving war industries and ensure each branch gets the right number of personnel.

Ya, but they might still allow it. Either way I'm reenlisting now because I can't fucking handle being a civilian, plus I saw one too many of those new enlistment adds and I had to rejoin

I'd probably should go ask the reserve affairs office, if I could be transferred from infantry into some maintenance unit, because I got basic trade qualifications after military. Then again there are probably enough people to keep those electrical devices running already.

Plus, I think you can become an officer if you are drafted; however, you have to do officer training.

Never heard of an officer draftee.

Mostly because the real incentive of a draft is it raises enlistment rates
y'know, if you're gonna get drafted anyways you may as well just enlist, that way you can actually choose where you go.

If I'm fighting for my own nation, I'll choose paramedic.

If I'm drafted for USA, I'll shoot the americans and defect.

And apparently Eagle Scouts and people who completed 2 years of JROTC can enlist as an E-2.

You can also go E-2 if two or more of your friends who you've recruited join

For the MOS I've chosen, I automatically get E-3 upon A school, and E-4 upon completing it.

If I drop out of A school though I get bumped back down to E-2.
