People really need to understand in a conventional war, there's no such thing as a safe occupation. Sure, the modern military may be analogous to a spear, with a small sharp tip supported by a long wooden shaft. But much of the operational level of warfare is precisely about attacking that support echelon.

I know this is sarcastic but that actually is a possibility. There are bots right now intended to help people stand and move should they be unable to do so themselves. These can pretty easily be turned into exosuits. It would be a bit harder to make them actual droids rather then controlled by humans but it is a possibility.

... just like to point out that CBRE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Explosive) Defence sometimes falls under combat engineer's job scope. Sooooo, you *might* well end up dying in a worse way. Just saying. At least bridge-laying is usually not manual these days.

So where would I as a robotics engineer (and more specifically one who works in prosthesis) work. Would I end up in combat or more likely working to improve current prosthesis to help veterans?

If bodies are needed then most likely combat. Maybe delegated dismantling either weaponry or bombs.

Just make a suit that looks like my flag. All troubles will be solved, then. Maybe replace the Crusader helm...but still.
