Ok, yeah, but with public school why haven't they moved out of being farmers anyway? Since, you know, they're already getting education and all..

Many of them do when they go to college.

Yet we still have a prospering farming industry.

Because, surprise surprise, a lot of farmers go to college for agricultural science
It's a good program, the local U has a whole campus put aside for it

No free market involved

oh no free market definitely involved, folks running farms, even family farmers, ain't peasants. They're businesspeople trying to get a leg up on all the other business people, and a degree is one of those ways they can get around to doing so.

That's really not a valid response. Because when you look at Trump's public statements in regard to science, he does not do well.

Vaccinations and Autism - he claims there is still a link. That has been widely debunked as utter bollocks by several studies. The fact he is repeating this claim borders on criminal.

Climate Change - he says that man made climate change is a myth. Hundreds of U.S. researchers, including 30 Nobel laureates, have criticised him for this stance. And while I would not dare to suggest 30 Nobel laureates might have a better education than President Trump, I think that 30 Nobel laureates HAVE a better education than President Trump. Also nearly all actively publishing scientists in the field (according to peer reviewed studies) say that global warming in the past century is a consequence of human activity.

Wind Farms - his claims that wind farms damage health appear to have more to do with not wanting his golf course in Scotland to have a wind farm near it than any actual science.

So while President Trump might have a better level of education, he is still full of shit.

Even if you accept this argument, it doesn't change the assertion at all. Trump is educated, but still quote "denies science". Higher education will not do anything to stop presidents who "deny science".

Diopolis wrote:I chose those two presidents specifically to illustrate that being well educated doesn't stop you from being wrong. Actually, better educated people are if anything more likely to hold entertainingly wrong views about science than average.

Okay - I really, really have to apologise. I entirely misinterpreted what you were trying to say with your original post.

When someone posted about "Presidents that deny science" and you said "They are better educated" I took that to mean you thought they were right and science was wrong, not that science was right and they were wrong. Hence my slightly ranty post about science.

So - I am really VERY sorry about that, because I entirely, totally and completely got the wrong end of the stick. I swear I did not do it on purpose - it was a genuine, honest mistake. But still - I am so sorry :)

Let people be able to drop out at 15-16. Most teenagers (like myself) I've seen my age are basically young adults. Those are my wishes, but yeah, make school mandatory. It's what's best.

Going to school is one of those things. Like several people have said before suck it up buttercup

I don't like paying bills, but I have to.
I guarantee none of our parents woke up going 'yippee! baby's crying! I get to change their shitty diaper, woo-hoo!"

Life is full of having responsibilities we'd rather not have.

In my perfect world no one would want abortions, therefore the abortion clinics would go bankrupt.

So, in other words, Fantasyland.

School attendance shouldn't just be compulsory, it should be year-round. Nix summer vacations in primary education.

Oh heeeeeelllllllls no.

The simple fact of the matter is that you cannot have a developed country without an educated population.

For all the Free Market Fairy stuff, I can simply point to the growth and development of every first world nation and how it's tied to having that educated population. You NEED a literate population. You NEED a population that has a basic education or you simply do not develop anything.

Also, since once again we're here, solve for the the problem of Gerlach, Nevada.

No, but it allows the rest of us to look at him and say, "Hey, you're full of shit. We're blocking your crazy-ass get rich quick scheme."

Explain why "gender studies" graduates are useless.

Many chemistry graduates in the UK go into accountancy, for basically the same reasoning Grand Valley State-U advertises for its gender degrees.

Yes, I can easily refute the basic principles. A gender/women's studies degree, or indeed almost any humanities degree is worthless. https://www.jamesgmartin.center/2014/10 ... atre-arts/

Children's brains aren't fully developed and it's unfair to let a lifetime decision such as this be decided by them.
