I was a freshman in high school; my friend and I took a human geography class, and became interested in politics.
One day at lunch, he showed me a political simulator, known as the NationStates. I kept up with my nation for a little while, but forgot about for about three years, until I rediscovered it by another good friend during US Government class. I made a new nation, and now here I am... about 6 months later.

I know, right! I can think of so many moments where if I hadn't done this one, small thing, or if I hadn't bothered to look up this one website, how different my life would be.

My government teacher had us made a country on here as part of a project. I'm the only one in my class still playing.

I was looking for the old PC game anacreon, the search came up with a nation of the same name on NS, I checked it out and have been here ever since.

IIRC, back in 2007 I was surfing on the Bolterandchainsword.com's discussion pages for the Warhammer 40k background, and I stumbled across this site in someone's signature. They'd made a mock Imperium nation, but I quickly looked behind that and saw the rest of the site. I was interested in politics before even that, so I migrated from there to here. It's been a happy ten years.

I didn't MAKE him do anything. I just brought a case of it over to the Libertarian Discussion Thread to share -- voluntarily -- and the denizens of that thread, being fairly open-minded when it comes to the consumption of mind-altering substances, drank it right up.

Used to sit around on iFunny, playing really poorly written wars we called "map-games."
Met some people on there, joined a Kik group, someone encouraged me to join here, and join their region.
Made a nation, switched to this one a few months back. My two year anniversary is tomorrow.
Pretty sure I drank the brew :p

I was on a site called "mytheme" which is not about real mythemes but is a conflation of "my" and "theme". We were learning to design avatars and flags and mini graphics; there were tutorials and group discussions. There were also dun and games, and in those a couple friends said they had enjoyed this national simulation game and why not give it a try. They also got me into Gaia at the same time, which was more anime oriented and less money grubbing back then. That was sometime in 2003.

As a bored person interested in worldbuilding at the time, I was looking for a site similar to Nationstates that I could play around with a virtual nation, make policy decisions, and simulate them. As I later found out, NS was a very crappy simulator, but was pretty ideal for worldbuilding.

I searched the name of a fictional country and one of the first results was a nation using that name on NS.

Personality/political quiz back in 2007, didn't actually make the nation until 2008 though, I seemed to have thought it was more complicated than it was. :p

I also ran across it in like 2006 come to think of it, when I was researching Sparta (before 300 came out) and I ran into a couple of nationstates nations with Sparta in the name and I was confused by their automotive manufacturing industry, but good thing I didn't use NS as a source. :p

And here I am just celebrating my 2nd anniversary of being on the site tomorrow
You should repost the first RMB/forum post you made.

I was searching for images of communist flags at the time. My first few nations were socialist.

I looked up "Weird Military Aircraft" when I was bored after school and Steam was down. I had seen the name of this site a few times before when trying to find the most impressive PMG creation, and upon seeing it next to that picture of a Russian bomber with naval turrets on it, I decided "ahhh, screw it" and made this nation.

A long time ago, I played SimCountry. Not for very long, I fell out of it quickly. But eventually, years later, I remembered it, and created an account. Played for a while, made a bit of a mark, and eventually left after getting permanently banned from the forums (flamed one person, I think). After that, I ended up migrating to CyberNations. While I was there I was made aware of Project Terra, and on the forums for that game I found out about NationStates. For whatever reason, I stuck with this.

Project Terra was the bees knees before the admin sold it and the new guy abandoned it.
