Because he doesn't have to be good, he only has to be better than Hillary Clinton. A candidate so bad, my cat buries superior choices every day. Also, to perhaps dispel some confusion, guns and abortion, that's why.

This brings us to the issue of a broken electorate system, I agree with Conservative Morality on that issue. As long as this FPTP electoral college exists, we will continue experiencing a race to the bottom with candidates.

Hillary is a career liar and asshole, but not to the extent of Trump. I'd rather have her in the Oval Office. I'm very pro 2nd amendment, and even I'd rather have Hillary.

I'd prefer a Presidential System akin to the one in France, where we have two rounds. Many states have it, I could see it working here. Or, better yet, a proportional system, but for our country, that is totally unrealistic.

The option of perpetual growth will be stymied, is being stymied, by global saturation. We outsource to India, which outsources to Romania, which outsources to Lower Slobovia. Eventually we run out of cheap labor markets, and growth slows to a halt.

The savior of the growth model may be robots, which eliminate human labor, and therefor eliminate humanity. Yay.

It is high time we switch from global growth models to models of local sustainability. If oranges do not grow in New York, drink apple juice. Get more vitamin C from cabbages, like the Germans did historically.

The World Bank has raped Africa in the name of the growth economy. Enough, already.

tbh I see the world right now as being a race between the end of capitalism by internal disaster (widespread economic collapse followed by revolution and an evolution into another system of production) or by external disaster (capitalism destroys the world r.i.p.)

I read the article before the post and decided to take it with a grain of salt.

Much of what happens today in the West has already happenned by the past and we've made it. The 1970s were also a time of despair, when the West was afraid the Middle-East could really threaten them (The oil crises) and Japan dominate them one day (The high growth period coincided with the said oil crises, and, in Britain, strikes and the "winter of discontent"). The populist wave of nowadays can also be compared to the leaders who were elected back then. Mitterrand in France, although a leftist, was said by the fearmongers to bring communism to the West. Reagan, too, was a symptom of that era of tremendous change (Take any article from back then, replace Reagan by Trump, & you'll see it).

Now, of course it's different as well. We're faced with problems they didn't have. But to be honest, most of them are tremendously blown out of proportion. The West has survived for so many centuries, it won't falter now. We may have a few crises and the 1970s redux, but we'll rebound eventually.
