Yes, if someone is being mean towards you how the fuck is that not worth reporting to their parents or teachers?

Yes, yes you are.

You say you don't, and on the next breath you repeat the same tired lines bullied kids keep listening and do nothing to stop their bullies from bullying them. "Words are words, you choose to be effected by insults" isn't something a child understands. Adults understand that. Children do not.

You don't "choose" not to retaliate or to report it. You simply try to do what you think, in your mind, will be the safest course of action for you.

Each and every time I told someone to stop bullying me, or I retaliated verbally, they wanted to kick my ass or guilt tripped me into keep talking to them so they could perpetuate the bullying. So I had to take it and deal with it because to me, it was almost always the risk of entering a physical confrontation and I didn't want to go back home with bruises because then my parents would ground me and question me. I had to look out for my wellbeing first, and that's what everyone does and should do, try to get out of a situation unharmed, even if it means you don't do anything but lower your head and nod.

Kids shouldn't be taught how to "deal with bullying", they need to be able to have adults around them who will listen to them and teach kids how not to bully. Nobody should have to "deal with it".

I feel he could have come to this conclusion instead of merely saying, "Well, stinks to be you." When I was bullied in middle-school, I went to the teachers and nobody did a thing. Once I got called a "dirty mother****er" on the playground, in clear earshot of the teacher, and when the girl ran up to her and gave her puppy eyes, she ignored it and told her to not do it again. Teachers need to be taught A.) to be fair, B.) to listen, C.) to take the worries of children seriously, and D.) to take action, even if it is uncomfortable.

Well, my parents always taught me not to take shit from anyone, and well, every bully I ever had usually stopped after the first few weeks. I either ignored them and they went away, reported them and they went away, fought them and won, and they were too scared to bully me, or fought them and got my ass kicked, but they stopped because I was too much trouble for them.

And that's great, but we're not talking about what Datlofff is like, here.

We're talking about what kids should and shouldn't put up with, and kids shouldn't have to put up with bullying. As adults, it is our responsibility to listen to them and make their lives more bearable in school, and that means we should try to stop bullying and listen to children when they come to us and be fair and investigate the problem enough to come with a solution for all parties involved.

If someone is legitimately being bullied, we should not just ignore it, we should not just say "deal with it", and we should definitely not tell them that their issues don't matter because we got bullied and lived through it. Just because we "lived through it" doesn't mean it's okay.

Short answer?

"fittest" isn't "strongest"

This should be blatantly obvious by looking at the natural word - the logical conclusion of "survival of the strongest" would surely imply that not only the strongest of a species would compete within that species; but inherently that stronger species would compete against other species.

I think there's quite a lot of confusion in this thread as to what this is addressing. This isnt about outlawing "bullying" by students towards other students—schools obviously already have anti-bullying rules in place (how well they're enacted is another thing). What this is about is preventing shaming of the students by school administration.

http://www.ajc.com/news/national/new-mexico-outlaws-lunch-shaming/M9F13RHfxngdeXFaEFLMVK/
It outlaws embarrassing children with stamps on their arms or forcing kids to clean their schools’ cafeterias when their lunch money accounts are low or come up short.

Some schools have told lunch workers to throw a child’s hot lunch in the garbage if there’s not enough money in his or her account to pay for it, The New York Times reported.

I'm not sure how anyone could be against preventing blatant abuse by schools.

The stamps a bit pointless. As is throwing the food out. But I don't see a problem with having to clean the cafeteria for food.

Yeah, humans definitely aren't stronger than fucking bears.

Food chains exist for a reason, bro. Before human civilisation, all creatures formed an equilibrium in the environment. The food chain represents a very straightforward flow of energy up the food chain, with fewer of the large predators at each link up the chain, and many many smaller herbivores at the bottom.

Conservation of energy.

You were probably taught at school (I was) that low levels of poison build up in non-lethal levels in creatures at the bottom of the chain, but when a dominant creature eats many of these creatures, it takes on a lethal dose and dies.
The same principle (at its most basic) applies to energy, and why food chains are what they are.

When children cannot afford lunches and they don't make any money, that's not their fault. They can't have a "display of weakness" if they're five-years-old and they're not working to get the money to afford lunches. But now you're saying their poverty, which is not their fault, is weakness and that it's the child's fault they can't afford a school lunch, so they should deal with it. Attitudes like yours is why this country has struggled to deal with bullying for years. Your attitude enables such behavior.

Well, I can't guarantee that I'll be well off. My poverty would be a reflection of my failure to become economically successful. But being poor doesn't mean that you have to live a miserable life. I'd think a kid has far more potential to move up in social class than an older adult.

Some people who grew up poor were extra motivated to do well in school because of that experience, and went on to become better off than their parents because they utilized a college scholarship to enter into a profession that pays well, such as becoming a dentist and they really had the drive to succeed. Sure, the work might be boring, but what matters in that example, is that they perform a valued service but their skill set is rare enough to be compensated highly which would enable them to live better. Everyone has to go to a dentist to get their teeth cleaned and looked after. That is economic leverage and might.

I'd see my role as nothing more than a humble guide, I'd want to point my child in the right direction, but in the end, it is up to them on where they take their life. It is all well and good if they're the type to make friends, but if they're a loner like me- there is a better or worse way they can go about that in my experience that they might need to discover on their own. I'd want them to be like Naruto in that they never give up and keep striving forward, no matter how many times other people try to put them down.

To give one cheesy analogy, if someone does something heroic or praiseworthy (such as winning the football game for their school's team) they too, might become someone the rest of the "village" acknowledges and respects.

Oh how do I ever know this first hand.

In IRL, its even harder to do so when its workplace harassment or school based.

Still if its online what harm to you can they do? again, just ignore it, words are words, no need to get offended off a ugly thing someone says towards you.

Its really easy when its school/work based, its called, report it. If you report someone for bullying in most states at school, thats a suspension, and if they continue possible alternative school/expulsion. If they do it at work, report it to the manager and get them fired.

Ive faced bullying in school and it was simple to deal with, I either beat his ass, ignored it, or reported it, and it stopped every time.

I haven't been bullied in the workplace but still, simply report it, most managers don't let that stuff fly.

Where I'm from, the zero tolerance bullshit rule prevents you from retaliating.

Yeah, they get suspended, then come back in a few days and do it all over again.

Bullying should be ended of course, but its not going to end, you can't stop assholes from being assholes, which is why we need to teach kids to deal with it, and teach adults to take it seriously, thats been my entire point.

No, your entire point was to let kids deal with it themselves, only recently did you start saying "Kids need to be taught not to" (Which wouldn't do anything...)

My entire point has been what I said it is, teaching kids to deal with it, thats what I said in the quote you just made. I also said that kids need to be taught not too, I also said adults need to take it seriously. Ive said a lot of things.

And by saying that teaching kids not to wouldn't do anything all you are saying is that bullying can't be stopped. Which makes full circle my point that we need o teach them to deal with it.
Im a slightly Authoritarian Moderate, I believe limited monarchies are the best systems of government, and that every 2016 presidential candidate was an idiot.
I personally feel that most people, in the act of trying to sound smart, often usually don't know what the fuck they are talking about.

Also, because some people think that bullying=survival of the fittest.

I was merely being a smart ass, sense you are implying me, atleast have the balls to state my name.

Well, you're not the only one stating it, so singling you out would be rather dickish on my part.

You should be grateful I didn't put your name in that post. :)

Because, nation states is a train, and like all good trains, you have to de-rail it once in a while to keep safety standards enforced.(aka keep the mods active)
