-They've gone from a strong regional power to the butt of European jokes.
-Their military currently has only slightly more than 25,000 active personnel, so is for all intents and purposes non-existent.
-Nationalism within the country has more or less become taboo, along with everything that goes along with it (the Church of Sweden being a big one), thereby weakening Sweden's integrity and long-term viability as an independent state.
-The country has a massive welfare state which came very close to causing an economic implosion back in the 70's, maintainable only through massive levels of taxation.
-Its reigning party, the Swedish Social Democratic Party, has expressed considerably more interest in asinine social policies than more important issues like Sweden's economy. And, considering how they've monopolized politics in the country for quite some time, and they'll probably continue to do so, this will likely remain the focus of the Swedish government for some time yet.
-The country has a growing problem with radicalism and ghetto violence, which its government mostly ignores.

Even if you ignore how stupidly short-sighted it is for Sweden to hamstring its own military, the country has some pretty glaring problems that its government seems more than willing to ignore.

If they had a nuclear deterrent, that would be an ok idea tbh. The failure there was to pursue it all the way. When you toss away your arms, even if its to invest in yourself, you are at the mercy of bigger states. In effect, they gave up their independence.
