Well it's extremely difficult if not impossible for anyone to be against culture. Fascism has/had its own culture with its own intellectuals, artists and free thinkers. Take for example, Gentile, D'Annunzio, the Futurists etc.

Well it's extremely difficult if not impossible for anyone to be against culture. Fascism has/had its own culture with its own intellectuals, artists and free thinkers. Take for example, Gentile, D'Annunzio, the Futurists etc.

The Futurists got quickly marginalised once Fascism took over. Gentile and D'Annunzio are a good example of bits of culture (along with, dunno, Deledda and Pirandello) the regime used as tools to build its consensus - well, Gentile was actually organic to the regime. In no case they were free thinkers.

Really I'll only hold that true in the sense that Stalin helped Hitler's rise to power.

If Stalin hadn't backed Nazi Germany in the 30s the Nazis never would have been able to kill all the people they did. Therefore Stalinism is in a sense responsible for many of the crimes of Nazism.
