I'm further right than 80% of Solid Liberals and 40% of the Next-Gen Left. Makes sense.

Image

Generally affluent and highly educated, most Solid Liberals strongly support the social safety net and take very liberal positions on virtually all issues. Most say they always vote Democratic and are unflagging supporters of Barack Obama. Overall, Solid Liberals are very optimistic about the nation’s future and are the most likely to say that America’s success is linked to its ability to change, rather than its reliance on long-standing principles. On foreign policy, Solid Liberals overwhelmingly believe that good diplomacy – rather than military strength – is the best way to ensure peace.

Image

Generally young, well-educated and financially comfortable, the Next Generation Left have very liberal attitudes on many issues, including homosexuality, abortion, the environment and foreign policy. While overall supportive of an activist government, most are wary of expanding the social safety net. Most also have relatively positive views of Wall Street’s impact on the economy. While most affiliate with the Democratic Party or lean Democratic, few consider themselves strong Democrats.

I always thought this was a terrible quiz.

"Business Conservative" would describe me best, although the designation is a bit at odds since I am not a conservative.

My problem with the test is that often neither option closest matches what I think. I will give an example. Question was whether I thought most people could get ahead with hard work and determination. Now what is meant by get ahead? If they mean they can do better then their parents at least a little the answer is yes I believe that this is possible. If however they mean move up more than 1 income bracket or something like that, then no I do not think that is the case.

I get a different ranking every time I take this damned thing.

A year ago I was a young outsider.

Six months ago I was a hard pressed skeptic.

Now I'm a bystander.

My political beliefs haven't changed that much over the past year. My results probably varied according to my mood, recent political developments in my country and country of residence, and whether I'd eaten anything lately, or whether I'd just taken an aspirin for one of the many throbbing headaches work/bureaucrats/NSG had given me.

Clearly the test is not truly reflective of how you fit into one of these arbitrary categories it decides to assign to you. It's fun but there are too many variables. Don't take it too seriously. :D

I think the only real problem with that quiz is that none of the questions have any middle-ground answers.

But anyway, I got young outsider, and it seems about right.

I wasn't aware that Americans were only able to have two clearly defined opinions, and all the associated connotations with said opinions, on any particular issue.

Pretty accurate except for the affluent part. And I wouldn't describe my support of Obama as "unflagging" :p

Solid liberal

I mean, I guess that was the closest to me of the options, but this quiz really reflects how most Americans really tend to never go left of social liberalism. America is shifted so far right, they felt they didn't need a separate result of anything left of liberalism.
